Question Thinking about doing an air intake-advice needed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What affect/if any/would this have on my car? Even if it wouldn't necesarily speed up my car would it make it sound better? The only thing im worried about is installation and whether or not the cheapo kit would actually slow my car down.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Get a real one for youre car. it will sound awesome from what I hear. A nice Whooosh! sound. But most ppl beleive that it will not increase HP. the stock air box is for up to 400 HP.

^ Did you use a breather filter on the secondary air hose thing that plugs into the airbox? I can't find one anywhere that will fit.

Mine came with the cold air intake on it and it definitely loud. As far as HP gains are concerned, I've read that you may actually lose some HPs because it is right next to the turbo and you are sucking in hot air (especially in the summer months). If that doesn't matter to you, Then go ahead and get it. My K04 is really loud and you can hear the BPV working during vacuumn..

DUDE why can no one find the breather filter anywhere, pep boys sells apc ones for 8 bucks. look around. you find them anywhere, they dont need to be like k and n or anything. As a matter of fact i dont think any respectable tuner uses them. The one i got with my evo intake looks like a genaric apc one.

with mine as it is, it doesnt suck hot air in, well hot compared to the turbo. the air around the filter after getting the turbo glowing red for a few runs was only around 90 deg.

i still need to get my VAGcom working again and scan it for IAT though.

I found one at Autozone, but it was 1/2" and not 1". I then went to another store and they didn't have any that fit. Not exactly easy to find a 1" breather filter...

Hey offroader, just read your thread about your Intake design. Nice job. I would've bought one from ya if I didn't already have one.

As seen in this ABD intake pic:

It's some connection for the secondary air injector system I think. Plugs into the stock airbox.

intake will be my first performance mod, i dont know when im gonna do it but this is what i want first, next will be probably a nice big intercooler in the front :)!!!!

anyway i have a question since this is about the intakes...

why doesnt anyone do a cold air instead of doin a short ram with a heat sheild? or why wont people wrap off the area between the turbo and the intake?

is it possible to do a cold air?

cold air is hard to find on a turbo car only way to get "colder" is to go in the fender or bumper.

what you mean by "wrap off" the area between them?

I have a 97 1.8t with an EVOMS Intake and i didnt get that breather cap! Do the 97's not have a secondary air injection system or is that just how EVOMS decided to design their intake?

I don't think 97's have the secondary air thing, but I may be wrong.

Is everyone talking about the piping that attaches to the left of the main intake hose?

About 0.75'' wide and sinks down to the bumper?

I THINK thast the crank case breather - if thats the case, do what I did and get a 3'' breather on ebay and plug it in. You dont want debris falling in there.

Anyone willing to confirm? Crank case breather or what?

i see that all the intakes go to the mid area of the engine bay, i dont know much about the enginge bay in our audis so dont make fun of me, but why dont people go further down towards the ground to get further away from the turbo, and push the piping towards the bumper.... is there no room or is there metal blocking this?

I think it's an intake hose for the secondary air injection system.

Lude - with the piping and the MAF housing connected to the filter, there is VERY little room to manipulate it.

However, some with the Evo/ADB intake have the U shaped aluminum piping, that would allow for the filter to be placed toward the headlight, colder air may come of it, not much albeit.

The problem is the area we have to work with is VERY tight and 3'' aliminum piping is VERY hard to get fitted for that (read - $$).

However a silicon hosing would do very nicely *ahem* Offroader *ahem*.
