Replace transmission front oil seal 06 B6

Hi all, is there any special technique required for replacing the oil seal on the manual transmission input shaft? I'm figuring it's just a matter of digging out the old one and pushing the new one in, without removing the shaft. I have the gearbox sitting on my garage floor, and the clutch compartment is fairly oily, looks like it's a transmission leak. I'm replacing the engine rear seal while I have it open for the timing service.

There is an o-ring as well as the seal that goes around the shaft, I'd replace both. here is a pdf that shows the recommended procedure - https://www.scribd.com/doc/313627008...ease-Mechanism

I am doing this myself as well so i'm glad you posted this. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an equivalent product to use in place of the oem "sealing grease"?
