20x10.5 Wheels with 275/30/20 Tires?? Stretched?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Seems like a lot of those running 10 or 10.5 wheels are using 275 tires. I'm close to ordering a set of wheels that are 20x10.5 and am thinking about reusing the tires on my RS5. Would they look stretched at all? I am NOT looking for the stretched look at all.

Here is 275 on a 10" rim. So not really stretched at all. My personal taste wouldnt like this tire on 10.5" wheel though. So for my new wheels I am ordering I am going with 285.

I went through this same problem, its frustrating. Some of the wheels i came across i have been deciding on were 20x10.5, and i am NOT a fan of stretch. I like a nice setup like posted above in 20x10 with the 275. For other cars that are RWD this isn't much of a problem since they can run a staggered setup like a 20x9 front & 20x10.5 rear. There is the option of going to a 285 tire but that seems like a lot of tire for the front of the car. I guess it depends on the ET, tire sidewall etc too.

So i think i am going to decide on 20x10 wheels. I do also like the 20x9 OEM RS5 rotors to go for a OEM+ look. But what boggles me is everyone says a 275/30/20 tire is too much for a 20x9. But that is the stock tire size that comes on the 20x9 rotros on the RS5. I have seen them at a dealership in person. I triple checked as well to make sure the RS5 rotor wheel isn't a 20x9.5. Anyone know what up with that? Even if you get the optional 20" wheels for the "s5" which are 20x9 they come with a 265/30/20 which is slim pickens tire choice wise.

So why does Audi put a 275 on the RS5 20x9 wheel?

Mine are ET30 no spacers. I actually got a set of Hankook ventus v12 Evo 2s mounted today, that look even less stretched so it depends on the tire too. It's too dark to grab a picture now but I'll post one up tomorrow.

Sweeps look about as stretched as any 275 would. That is the worst they'd look. I have a nice pic of a 275 Evo2 on 10.5. I'll dig for it. Here are two other 275 on 10.5 setups...

OK that is not bad at all, well none of your pictures are Mops . I just cant stand some of the stretched setups i see on the younger kids cars around me, and i think in my head i blow it out of proportion. The Evo 2 are the tires i am going with, i have a HUGE savings deal on them at the moment ordering them from sears with buy back points. On top of them already being on sale i have a 15% on that.

So what is the deal with the RS5 having 275 Pirelli zero tires on a 20x9 wheel if the recommended minimum wheel size on every "chart" i see is 20x10 or 9.5? Even the 2016 S5 with the 20" wheel package comes with 265/30/20 tires which is slim pickens usually finding some.

You also looked a lot more tucked than i would be mops. Does 20x10.5 get your approval on H&R OE's?

Good thread as I've been confused on this on as well. I'm looking at 20x10.5 and I like the flush wheel look without a stretch. Seems like the recommendation is a 275 but then the tire charts make it seem like it should be 285 (evo2 and PSS). Makes things really confusing. In the end, I figure that listening to Mops and others here is the way to go since I can see pics of what they're talking about.

Here is a pic from Mops of 275/30/20 Evo2 on 20x10.5

GD... I went though my pics until my head hurt looking for that, and quit. And I'm not a quitter. Thanks Bob^. But yea, the 275 Evo2 fits great.

275/30 on 10.5 is not a stretch no matter the tire. I mean, they fall within manu specs.

    I 100% approve 275/30 on 10.5 with OE on 4.2.

20x10.5 Wheels with 275/30/20 Tires?? Stretched?

Since all have Mops attention... What size tire would Mops put on a 19x10?

I SWORE I read somewhere Mops doesn't like the Forgestar F114's. But these wheels come in a HELLA concave fitment that I think would fit the 5 body. Some angles they even look dare I say too aggressive for this e90 sedan M3. Probably would flow more on a e92 coupe.

I can't help but DROOL how these in this exact color would look on my Deep Sea Blue Pearl. I don't see anyone here run these either. In 19x10 you can get them in their "deep concave" fitment with a low offset. I don't see anyone here really run these, perhaps that's not a good thing lol?

I think these are something a little different from what I see here for a decent price.

That said I am leaning towards a 20x10.5. Although a 19x10 concave wheel with some meat on it might look pretty cool too. Settling & picking wheels is very frustrating if you don't have a unlimited budget. Otherwise it would be cake!

I need to explain to my fiancé & kid vacations are overrated .

QFT...same boat as you my friend. My budget is less than a thousand for rims.

I'm planning on getting the Niche M129 in 19x10 with a 25 offset. These will stick out 21 mm further than the stock rotors at 19x9 with 33 offset. I was trying to figure out what tire to use and with the help of Mops he suggested 275/35/19 would be best.

Just something to keep in mind that Mops told me in the past is also the type of tire and sidewall on the 275 or 285's. I can't speak for all the brands but I can tell you there's a huge difference in appearance and side profile from using General G-Max, Yokohama, Pirelli, Conti's, and Michelin. I've ran 20" wheels in a 20x9, 20x10, and 20x10.5 setups on all my 5-series Audi's and never had issues. Although I can say with confidence the Pirelli and PSS in 275/30/20 look far better and perform better on a 10.5" wheel. The sidewall does not look as thin and tire doesn't look as stretched as the General's or Yokohama's. Hope that helps, good luck!

A few of the Niche wheels seem like a awesome wheel for those on a tight budget. Good part is you can get them in a 25 offset in the 19x10 flavor. Plus some of their wheels like the Niche targa have the spoke run all the way through the wheel giving t the illusion it's bigger than it is. Some of their 20x10.5 wheels almost look "big" even on our cars body because of the spoke layout.

I'm running 15/20 spacers on my stock rotors giving it the illusion they wider & of course they sit flush. But from the backside I feel I need more width.

My other in my budget was a 20x10 et25 Avant Garde m580 in satin silver. They are $1,500 a set. Or just say F it and break the credit card out and get DEM BBS's wheels .

I really really like those F14's I posted above, I don't see many people run them here either!

Very true Abe. Take Sweeps pic above. I would have bet $50 that was a 265. Some tires just run thin, and/or do no stretch well. The Evo2 is best at hiding it, and keeping a square looking sidewall. The Pirelli Nero M+S on the silver CH above were the best overall full looking fit. PSS being very close behind, and the DWS 06 just behind the PSS. Below is the mk7 with 235 DWS on 8.5. Pop it open. Superb fit. The sidewall rolls over super smoothly...

Well that's good news that's the exact 3 tires I was looking at no matter the wheel . In that order as well. Leaning towards the EVO 2 as I have have some nice rebates for the evo 2 via my Sears card not to mention they are already on sale with free pickup at my local Sears up the street . Well it was.

    -EVO 2 unreal savings
-PSS also on sale at Sears but nowhere near the evo price
-DWS06, I am in PA after all so have to think about that, although leaning towards a winter tire switch come November because of the awesome evo 2 sale.

In the short time I've had the Evo 2s I can already notice an improved ride over my previous tires. (Accelera phi 2, sh*t tires in case anyone was wondering) sidewalls are definitely thicker on the Hankooks as mops mentioned. Ride is more supple going over road imperfections

20x10.5 Wheels with 275/30/20 Tires?? Stretched?

I'm currently on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 my car came with. They seem like a good all season tire. They are getting a little noisy at highway speeds being they are at the yellow bar warning 4/32. So it's time.

I'd like to try a summer time especially with the price of the evo's atm.

Was gonna post a pic but RVJs look pretty much the same as mine but easier to see off the car.

Currently on OE setup, 255/35/19 on 19x8.5 ET33. More than likely bumping to 20" but debating 10" vs 10.5". I'm running PSS rubber right now and plan to do so for the 275 setup. Most tire charts I'm looking at show 9"-10"...I really dont want to have stretch.

10" vs 10.5" what offset should I look at with absolute no worry for rubbing but as close to having a tuck as I can? ET30? 32?

@Mops what offset did you have on the BBS?

The BBS above were all 10.5 ET25 on 275/30.

After running 12+ sets on my A5, I ended up liking 10" on 275 best. If you want a 100% rub free setup, I would look at 10" ET27-28. 10" ET25 on 275 is most common, but I could not say that setup would be 100% rub free.

Mops, you put me on 285/25 with my 20x10 vorsteiner 102's.
stock ride height with not spacers....

have had a tiny bit o rub on rears only like maybe two times so far..... & only happens when suspension bottoms.....
my shocks are ready for replacement, too, at 60k on the vehicle....

dont know it this helps any, but just in case.......

275's would be the best optional for 20x10.5 rims my 285 is rubbing on aggressive driving and bumps btw this is with 4mm spacers that means ET23 offset .

0.5" does make a good bit of difference in the sidewall angle. I have two sets of rims 19x9, 19x9.5 and the 9.5 has a bit of stretch look. The 9 is vertical.

It's very tire brand dependent. I had 275's on a 10" wide rim and they looked very stretched (Sumitomo). Switched to a 285 Michelin PS4S and it's so much better (IMO).
