Center cup holder complaint - how to kill the springs inside?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Really dumb question and I hate to even ask it... but I searched around here and elsewhere with no answer. Anyone else have issues with the center cupholder crushing foam cups with the spring loaded tabs inside? I'd love to take them out but, wanted to look here for any suggestions before getting that aggressive with a fix.

You could fine an old plastic cup and trim it to fit in the holder and that way you could place the foam cup in without crushing it.

You must be a Dunkin Donuts fan because I have the same issue with their cups. I just drink McDonalds coffee more now.

Best solution is to find your favorite travel / insulated cup and keep it with you. I have one in my car that whenever I go to buy a cup of coffee the first thing I do is fill my travel one and if in the rare case there's any left, I down that, toss the foam and move on.

Funny I have the same issue. I just rotate the cup a little every couple times I take it out.

Another stupid issue is the size of the second cup holder (closer to the storage box).
My wife and I were in the car a couple weeks back and she had to hold her coffee in her hand so I could use the larger opening.
    How dumb.

Ze Germans would laugh at you Americans' silly cupholder gripes. Sometimes I think German cars are intentionally made with terrible cupholders as some kind of practical joke on the Americans that insist on having a beverage to distract from the driving experience.

of all the things to complain about cupholders. Be glad you have anything. my 2000 BMW has folding cupholders that always broke at the tune 0f $35. They were an after thought as Germans do not drink coffee when they drive or should not. Our cup holders are fine.

The driving experience is probably a bit better in Germany than the crap roads in many parts of the US (especially the north east) with roads too narrow, car eating pot holes, low speed limits, congestion, etc. Wish we had an autobahn at times but then I realize the driving capability of many US drivers would ruin that too.

Cup holders in my E92 were 10X better than these ones. Just on location alone (put them both in the passenger dash - so if they spilled, you were still dry but your navigator was pissed off). Location of these ones really suck with the 6MT.

Never broken one in 8 years of ownership...didn't use them all to often either, but still.

OP - why not just take the center console out (can't be that hard) and just remove the springs? If you're lazy - just tape them open with gorilla duct tape (black - so you wouldn't really see it).
