S4 to be driven much, much less ...

Finally picked up a newer car for the wife! A 2014 Passat TDI SE. It has higher mileage for the year (67K), but the plan is to keep it for 200K more miles. LOVING the range of the TDI.

Anyway, I'm gonna be driving an old Jeep XJ to work everyday on my super short commute. I've never had a "weekend car" so to speak, so my question is this. Anything I need to do for the Audi since it will be sitting most of the week these days? We don't have a garage if that helps (it doesn't). Currently, it's at just below 125K miles. Original clutch, original timing.

Obligatory new to us car photo:

We picked up a 2015 Golf TDI SEL for my wife last fall. It had 5K miles on it (someone owned it two months, then the scandal hit, and they traded it in) for 13K off list! I was pulling for an R, but the bargain won out.

I got a car cover for the Audi (it also is my weekend/fun car) in order to protect it from the elements including bird droppings . As long as you drive it and it doesn't sit for long periods of time, there should be little to do for it.

Edit - Also, I like your choice of daily driver

So car covers are okay? I guess it's long term use (months) that's damaging.

Dude, this car's huge. I would be surprised if it fit.

We're talking about your DG S4 yes? It's a "custom" car cover the original owner gave me to cover the Avant but I never used it. It's got a felt interior and waterproof exterior that just sat in a corner somewhere.

measure the car's idle power consumption to make sure there aren't any unusual draws that could kill your battery in a week. note that the head unit and some dash electronics remain on for a bit after the car has been powered, which will show several amps of draw. wait a couple minutes and those devices will sleep, then the draw should be less than an amp with all the doors closed.

Brain fart. I forgot this thread is about the S4 and not the Passat. Doesn't change the fact that car is really big.

I'd love the car cover, though I don't know if I'd actually use it either.

Why keep the S4 around if you're not going to daily drive it?

I just can't bring myself to sell it. It was pretty much wasted on my dinky 6 mile round trip commute for the last two years, so I'd rather drive it when I feel like it then because I need to.

I'm in the same boat now. Putting the S4 for sale as we speak. I drive the work truck every day now and the S4 gets started once or twice a week :(
