    b6 s4 rear spindles on b6 a4?

Was thinking about making such swap. Has anyone made such a swap. Wil the stock brake caliper bolt up or will I need to get s4 brake components? Did some search but no definitive answers. Thx.

Go to this website and compare the parts between the A4 and S4. Even if a part number is different, usually the suffix letters, does not mean the part won't fit both A4s and S4s. The two bodies are the same sheet metal.

They do swap. I just purchased some to do this swap with. Miktip did this on his car. I also purchased the s4 e-brake cables because I think I have been having an issue with mine causing my ebrake to drag.

Looks like the same carrier is used on the C6 as well.

What's the advantage? I thought the S4 rear brakes were a direct swap to A4s already?

Aluminum carrier vs iron / steel, from what I read it saves 5 lbs per corner. A 5 lb of sprung weight reduction is significant.

That and having bolt on bearings vs. Pressed in bearings is nice. I have o.g. bearings in the back. Figured after 136k miles I might as well change them. Besides I get to throw a set b7 rear brakes on them. Sweet.
So from what I gathered, I just need to buy a b7 rear brake set up (calipers, carriers, rotor and pads) plus my spindles then I should be good to go right? Any other misc shit I need? From those who've done it.

did u get the s4 ebtake cable because the stock a4 cable is the wrong length for the swap? Or because Your cable is already binding as it is. My stock cable is fine so I was gonna leave it alone. Since it looks like a PITA to change.

The stock cable works with the B6 S4 rear brakes. Mine pulls up quite a bit, enough that it moves the arm rest up from the bottom position where I like it and I have to adjust it when I start driving. I'm not sure if that is because of the S4 brakes or because my cable is worn.

I went for the S4 ebrake lines because for some reason mine must not be adjusting correctly and seem to be causing my ebrake to engage slightly. Since I am swapping to s4 hubs and redoing my entire rear subframe I figured it was worth it to get the "correct" part for what I have.

Bump. Has anyone been able to confirm if the C6 carriers are the same? Looking for the B6 ones, I can only find passenger sides. Its like the drivers side doesnt exist!

I ran into clearance issues with trying to get B7 A4 rear calipers to bolt up to the S4 spindles. The upper arm of the spindle was contacting the the caliper's banjo bolt since the caliper isn't spaced out as much as the S4 caliper, and it was by an amount that I wasn't comfortable with clearancing. Had to shelve the spindles until I feel like spending the money on an S4 rear setup...

Cant speak about the c6 spindles but the s4 rears bolted up perfectly with b7 rear calipers and stock b7 rotors. No fitment issues whatsoever. Bolt on wheel bearings and bigger brakes. It's a thing of beauty❤

That's interesting... A4 B7 rear calipers? I wonder if there's multiple revisions of the S4 knuckles that have different clearances up top. Mine were from a 2003 S4...

Unsure what year my s4 spindles were from as they were ebay specials. However they must be from the b6 era as they bolted right up. The b7 calipers and rotor has no clearance issues neither except I had to move the ebrake cables forward a hair. Will post photos next time I have the wheel off.

Did you ever get the S4 cables installed and did it cure the dragging?
I've installed fr&are S4 brakes on my 04 Avant and they seem to release fine, did you route the cable through all three retainer clips or just
    two?

I have the S4 rears on my avant and am using the stock A4 cables. I had to route them through just the 2 clips. I originally had intentions to put the S4 cables in but read that a lot of guys who did the upgrade went with stock cables with no issues so I decided to do the same.

Me too. It does seem that my parking brake handle has to be pulled ever so slightly higher than it used to, but other than that you'd never know it wasn't original to the car. Looks and feels OEM.

    You sure about that? I didn't think there was an '03 S4. '02 S4 was still a B5 and '04 was a B6, so maybe you accidentally got B5 S4 knuckles.

Your wheel bearings are gonna cost twice as much now. Flange style like on the front instead of a normal unit, afaik

Yes, but they're easier to replace though. Or atleast they should be in a perfect world.

Yep i don't see why they wouldn't last just as long or longer too I took some of it apart on my car today and grease was dripping out of my rear bearings so I guess good time to do this anyway.
I wonder if it effects the ride too 5lb difference on the wheel should feel different and not so harsh on the struts.
