    TCU Tune Comparison

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Are all TCU tunes created equal? Do they all raise the rev limiter and provide comparable launch control? Is the drivability pretty much the same between these tunes? Does the APR temperature management provide tangible benefits to the transmission and do other vendors offer a similar feature?

all tune say ''quicker shifting '' too. I wonder how much more quicker can it be lol. In Manual mode, after the installation of both diff mount + tranny mount, anytime i press the paddle, it shift instant. Not sure how quicker it can be. Would love to hear what other have to say about the behavior of their dsg flash.

I have APR Stage 2 ECU as well as the TCU tune and I can confirm the shifts are much quicker and crisper after the TCU tune...BUT.....it's only noticeable when manually shifting over like 3-4k rpm. There is pretty much no delay with the TCU tune when upshifting with the paddles.

none of them publish actual shift-speed time. By shift speed, I actually mean the duration to swap both clutches, the part that really matters for best acceleration. No one here has published/posted a log (aside from myself, which I took down for reasons) what happens to the ECU during the launch control; it would be interesting to see the boost bleed %, the actual throttle angle the ECU is seeing, as well as the rev range it attempts to hold the rpm at.

I'm happy with my APR DGS tune. No issues whatsoever although I thought the price was a bit steep.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm still learning about these cars, so bear with me. If I'm running an ECU tune from X company, can I run a TCU tune from Y company? I'm looking at a tune from a company who doesn't offer a TCU tune, but would like to entertain the idea of a TCU tune in the future. Assuming it is truly 2 different control units, they shouldn't interfere...right?

Yes, you can mix and match. A few guys here run tunes from different companies...

There are people running tunes from difference companies. Even though they are different control units there is some level of communication between the two. So, I think the general recommendation is to get both tunes with the same company but certainly not necessary. For a little more information, you can look for the DSG shifting issue thread. In that thread APR talks about how the ECU and TCU were communicating and to solve the issue they had to update the ECU software.

I hate the way my cars shifts with the giac tcu tune. It surges during partial throttle and bogs at wot. Flash it back to stock and it's perfectly fine. If I didn't need it for the added clamping force I would have ditched it long ago. Car shifts very poorly compared to stock.

We recommend running our TCU with our ECU tune, but it will work with others. Ours were made to work together.

Depends on the company. We officially support our TCU tune with other companies ECU tunes. We don't support it the other way around, although people have done it and said it works reasonably well.

As an aside, I'd suggest against somebody that doesn't offer a TCU tune. If they haven't gotten that far with the platform yet, they're pretty far behind and their ECU tune is likely sub-optimal.

Even the newest guy (EPL) on the scene has a TCU tune.
