I was provided a CPO checklist from the dealer, signed by their technician. Did you not receive this at delivery?

Prior collision does not preclude them from cpo. The damage could have even been severe. It must be fixed well but it's amazing what can pass a cpo.

Call it BS. They certify the car. AoA doesn't. When I traded my 2013 in due to problems, AoA had stepped in to help. The GM of the dealership was also involved. They gave me a 1000 bucks over the KBB value in addition to the significant discount dropped in by AoA on a new car. The GM told me that they wont certify my trade in for sale since it can cost anywhere between $1500 to $3000 and they wont be able to sell it for about $3k over KBB price. This clearly shows that its the dealerships own decision and own work on the CPO. And as a matter of fact, if you talk to AoA, they would also tell you the same.

CPO is basically an extended warranty the dealer buys from Audi. They must take certain steps and get the vehicle to a certain condition, but that is it.

I purchased mine from several states away but went to the dealer for delivery. I did all of the pre-delivery steps through email and phone, but even if the OP never went to the dealership, I would assume all of the necessary paperwork was sent to him electronically by mail.

I know things can be taken care of electronically i was just wondering about the check list since it's a binder with carbon copies that the owner gets and the dealer gets to certify the car which the owner has to sign off on..
i'm not saying it's not possible but from the looks of this binder and the carbon i can't see it being done electronically,i may be wrong but it was just a thought.

I believe I have those documents, but they are in the car right now at the collision shop so I cannot verify.

I will call AoA tomorrow and talk to them more. At the minimum my car is fixed (if the damage is only on the bumper and associated parts) and I will maybe just have to live with that. But I will fight this a little further. I think it is worth it for my lawyer to call and contact the dealer if needed.

I called Audi of America today and they confirmed certification process is done by dealer.

They are calling the dealer and this is being escalated.

Please let me know how you make out....what exactly was the $8.5k damage?

I too just picked up a few days ago a used CPO Audi s6 MY 2015....I just took it to a friend who owns an auto dent/repair shop locally and he told me the front and rear bumper were repainted(and not well) dirt underneath the paint and the rear bumper right side had obvious bondo work. In addition all four wheels were painted and not well done to cover something up....i took it back to the dealer to tell them my findings and all they did was agree to wet sand and polish the front and rear bumper. I let them do it but still pretty upset that the wheels were not at all addressed and neither was the bondo issue! What to do what to do.... I will bring to another Audi dealer to make sure no major damage(my auto shop friend and I don't see evidence of structural damage)..... any thoughts/suggestions

oh man. So did Audi of America not resolve or agree to pay you for the fix? Why the lawyer? thx for the update...i know how you are feeling. We both paid a lot of $ for a CPO car and want a clean CPO car as promised...

AoA is involved now too, but my lawyer is also sending a letter to the dealer and go from there also. I hope to have it resolved with AoA involvement and the lawyer will only be pursued further if needed.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone think that bondo on the rear right side of the bumper is acceptable for a CPO car???

CPO in general is like an additional insurance policy, affording customers a warranty to protect against expensive repairs that mostly concern the functional operation and systems of the vehicle. The visual inspection portions included in the CPO checklist are largely subjective, and shouldn't be a basis for a buyer assuming the vehicle is in pristine cosmetic condition. A vehicle can be repaired and still certified; dealer standards for the quality of the repair and whether it is acceptable can vary by levels of expertise and integrity. I don't mind previous minor damage as long as it's been fixed properly and I'm getting a good deal - Treat CPO transactions like buying any other used vehicle, but with the benefit of extended warranty. The best practice would be to have a thorough PPI done for any used vehicle purchase, including CPO.

I was under the impression that a CPO car is in excellent condition, perfect maintenance history and an additional 24 months of warranty. Audi is a luxury car maker. The whole point of a luxury vehicle CPO is that the buyer knows that the CPO car is an excellent example of a used vehicle. I'm not sure I agree that a CPO designation is simply 24 months of added warranty.

If luxury dealerships CPO ed everything regardless of condition ..... their reputation and the name (CPO) would hold little value with the public.

Hind site is 20/20. The OP should have had a PPI done regardless of the CPO. Years ago ... I purchased a CPO R8 V10. I had the PPI done regardless. The PPI would have picked up on the repaired damage pretty easily. A good PPI would measure the paint thickness throughout.

Again .... good luck and hopefully this gets resolved in your favor.

CPO is definitely done by the dealer. I had a dealer give me a signed copy and it turned out that the CPO was never done. It seems like they pre-fill it out but don't actually do it until they sell the car in case someone wants to buy it w/o CPO to save some money. AoA said it wasn't on them and 100% on the dealer. In my specific case they claimed it was a mistake and was mostly because I bought the car on Saturday with the stipulation that I needed to pick it up that Saturday. Eventually I got AoA involved and the problem was mostly solved. But it was definitely an important lesson on how little value a CPO is (other than the extended warranty).

I'll keep you guys updated but AoA is involved rt now. They sent me images they had of the car and on one image I can clearly see the panels don't align and bumper and fender is off. Again, hindsight makes this easier to spot.

My car is being fixed and should be ready thursday. So I should have my car and go from there regarding the rest of this CPO certification failure.

I see how one could make that assumption based on how luxury automakers market to consumers, but I'm the type to look for the fine print. It's threads like this that shoppers should look for before making a major purchase.

Ultimately, brand dealers need inventory to move, and shoppers like the security of CPO warranties. Often, CPO vehicles also qualify buyers for special financing rates. The system works well most of the time, and in my experience AoA will work with the dealer to make things right when something like this happens.

Kudos to the OP for sharing his experience, and best of luck with your S7 once the repairs are done! If you're still bothered by knowing there was some body work, I'll gladly swap my A7 with you, even Steven!

Well I am approaching 3 weeks at the shop now. Ridiculous. I have been renting cars on the weekend which the dealership says they will pay so they had better. When I dropped my car off, I asked very specifically if they could put my aftermarket rs7 grille in since the labor to disassemble it was already covered. They said yes and today tell me they want to put my factory grille on to get the car back to me. No way Jose. I hopefully will get car back next Tuesday and see what AoA has to say in the meantime.

    3 weeks!!

Well my car is officially over 3+ weeks at the shop and still not done. Hopefully today, but I'm not crossing fingers. I stopped by to see what it looked like and it looks pretty good. Dubstop rs7 grille and evidently they had to fabricate a custom camera mount using rs7 oem mounting parts.

BUT I'm pretty pissed off because they re-used all the broken bumper parts etc. I assumed what happened was the dealer worked out a deal with the shop to "patch" all these pieces instead of replace them like initially desired. My lawyer has letters drafted up. They are going out soon. This has been one of my worst car buying experiences.

You should contact Roger Penske (he owns North Scottsdale Audi) and let him know how your experience has been. Like I said previously .... I've dealt with this dealership many times and I've always been treated well. Penske is a class act. He would be definately pissed if he knew how this was being handled.

Yeah. If you get the aftermarket rs grills the camera holders are crap and shop will have to custom make a better bracket to hold the camera in place
