    B 6 transmission mounts

I bought this 2002 1.8 A 4 Quattro that a previous owner had converted to a 5 spd manual from an automatic. The center part of the clutch disk broke free from the friction portion of the disk. So I replaced the fly wheel, clutch disk, and a pressure plate. There are only two transmission mounts near the center of the transmission I was wondering if there is supposed to be a cross member like there is on the 2004 1.8 Quattro with a 6 spd manual transmission. There appears to be bolt holes in the transmission near the tail shaft end of the transmission for that. The car was supposed to have had a new clutch installed just before the timing belt broke. I want to make sure that the reason the clutch disk broke was because there is supposed to be a cross member installed and there isn't one.

If it was an auto/TIP to manual swap than you likely have the auto subframe, hence the dual side mounts like an auto trans or B5. It is fine like that. There is an extra brace you can install if you want (take a look at the B5 S4).

The B6 manual transmission mount is a single mount centered on a cross member giving a three point engine/transmission mounting. I don't know how you where able to use the auto trans mounts with the manual trans. Since Audi has the specific three point manual trans/engine mounting setup, it is prefered to use the same mounting that the manual trans/engine uses stock, instead of a four point engine/trans mounting setup used with the tip trans. You need to get the cross member and a manual trans mount that fits on the cross member.

The trans housing should have the side attachment points in the casting.

Lots of people doing the 2.7t swap 'upgrade' to the side mounts if they have an auto subframe in order to have more down pipe clearance. They are fine to use. The downside is reduced chassis stiffness by not having the wishbone however there is a B5 brace that can be installed in its place.

I'm not sure what transmission is in the car I looked using a flash light but the only numbers I see are the 01A part number. I would like to figure out what transmission I have so that I can get the right parts. The transmission is anchored to the car chassis using the two side mounts and appears to be adequately supported. This is the way that the transmission was supported when I bought the car and it drove fine until the clutch disk broke. I'm not sure if the bottom three bell housing bolts being loose or the lack of the cross member had any thing to do with the clutch disk breaking. So I'm trying to make sure everything is right any and all input will be welcomed.
