mid range power at a loss

Hi I have a b6 s4 6 speed manual. With Milltek 2.5 catless downpipes and fast intentions cat back & air box mod with the lower air box flap always open). It pulls like crazy top end (Ran a 13.4@107mph) and pulls hard down low from idle to about 3400.

Here's the thing I noticed the mid range I sort of hit a "pillow" or a soft spot. It pulls hard from idle but once I hit around 3400 ish it loses its "torque" and feels like it dies off in power but once I hit 5000 rpm ish it turns into a animal and pulls hard to red line.

I didn't really notice this with stock exhaust and non modded air box.

Car has new plugs etc runs really good overall just wondering if a JHM tune will fix this or maybe my intake actuator is stuck.?

    Thanks in advance !

try to move your intake flap by hand , you just have to remove the front engine cover

if you feel like you're gonna break it, then it's probably stuck

Definitely the 2.5 downpipes are to blame. After I installed decatted Fast Intentions 2.5" downpipes on my Avant I instantly noticed a severe dip in mid range torque. Top end, as you noted, is improved.
Look at the threads from zimbuthemonkey, he's written a tune that moves the intake flap changeover point lower in the rpm band, and supposedly it eliminates that soft spot.

Thanks for the replys ! I'm going to have the car JHM tuned tomorrow to see if that helps (I've read on here it does).

I'll post the results when I get it flashed for anyone that might be interested.

Had the car tuned and yup fixed about 80% of the lag in the mid range !! Really happy with the tune launch control is retarded.

To expand on this a little bit. it's not so much the changeover as it is the cam phasing. My experience is that you need to keep the cam phasing completely advanced until later on in the RPM band or you'll loose power.

Here's the link to the thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-loose-power-)
