So what happened with these? Is the only source for them now to get them used? They were pretty convenient to have installed on the car!

started having weird glitches, the company stopped supporting them, RIP STE PPD

It was a good concept, the follow through just didn't seem to be able to keep up.

Arduino devices and full color tft displays are getting so cheap now, I am waiting for someone to whip up something awesome....

Ya, the main board was legit, but the shield adapter board thing was hoaky. Mine started locking up at like 2wks in and totally died 2 later.
I tore it apart and patched up a burnt smoke tunnel from the voltage regulator and it has been fine since.

Do it slide!! These look badass!

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

I Am with Zillarob this was based on a solid micro controller platform. I cracked mine open right away as the case was poorly put together. There were a few shaky solder points and connections that I redid and it has been perfect. No issues at all.

I love my PPD and I'm fearful of it breaking everyday with all the horror stories.

I think it would be cool to have a different display entirely in there but few people actually spend money on these cars anymore so a production run would be hard to accomplish. I can't imagine doing it yourself would be too easy either. The ppd units were just poorly constructed then?

Martin you actually have one you don't want?

Weeeeell I have been playing with using a Teensy 3.2 (Arduino Based Board) and an itlead Nextion 2.4" full color touch screen gauge for the center vent (under $50 in parts)...

Right now its primary function will be for a meth flow and info gauge for a friend's build... but I have a few other ideas too... the hope its to get something that works then share it openly with the community, down to the 3D printed housing and code, then think off all the fun options people could add to it just by adding additional cheap various sensors to expand the capabilities.

This was one of the earlier alignment tests, the current version is one piece and slightly different design.

Did you you look into that fez cobra 3? That thing looks gnarly and has can networks and display drivers and all sorts of crap built into it.
The fez panda 2 is what is in the ppd.

Props on doing it open source! I got a nastygram from the ppd dude when I mentioned he should put the code up on nef.
I think the ppd would do much more than it does if some hobbyists could have played with the code and added goofy stuff, like snake

I had heard in passing that the PPD was somewhat arduino based, but had never physically had one to look at. I hadn't heard of those boards you mentioned before, but will definitely check them out, thanks greatly for the heads up and the info!

Thank you! Its like you said, and I fully agree, I feel like a BETTER end product would be possible if more people are given access to tweak, change, expand and share. Then we all win!!! I am in no way delusional enough to think I am gods gift to coding or manufacturing lol, so I would rather have people improving upon the initial idea (so long as they keep sharing their improvements), because then I get to benefit from those changes along with everyone else. Plus I have zero interest in manufacturing such a product, filling orders, taking payments, and offering customer service... I do enough of that already for my real job, and i'm all "customer serviced" out

Sorry to hear about the nastygram.... life and people are weird sometimes, all you can do is roll with it lol. Although I bet if they just sold the assembled hardware (plenty of people would pay to have that part done for them) and offered the code openly, i bet the PPD product would still be around and better then ever! (and maybe even include tetris AND snake!!!!)

    Tetris would be legit lol

When I was in high school, our computer class had a Tetrinet tournament. Idk if Tetrinet still exists but man was that fun. You play against like 5 other people and get little weapons and stuff when you get tetrises that wreck other peoples boards or whatever and all sorts of stuff lol
    I'm like a tree. I'm all root
