Quick question about H&R OE springs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've read many posts about springs and coils here on the forums. This is my first time lowering a car so I'm not sure what to expect, but I will not be tracking my car so I don't see a need for coils. It's a 2013 S5 without drive select if that makes a difference. I was looking at the OE springs with stock shocks. I've seen mixed reviews saying shocks will go bad with after market springs. I know the OE's are the most mild drop but I don't want to experience either bounciness or shocks failing. If anyone can confirm that just the OE springs will be fine or not with stock shocks.
    Thank you

It's a good idea to swap out the struts when you do the springs...however, I am running just springs for the last 25k miles and everything seems to be ok. My car only had 25k when I installed them so I wasn't too concerned about strut wear. The ride is ok, a bit firmer then OEM, overall can't complain. The drop was just what I was looking for on the V8.

Honestly, I'm probably going to go with HR Street Coils next because I heard the ride is superior.

If you're looking for a mild drop at a great price, the springs aren't a bad choice.

Do you drive in snow or live in a snowy climate? PA winter and salt would probably rust the H&R coil eventually for me. I could always treat it before hand. I believe they are galvanized not stainless. I only wanted to get rid of the fender gap. So I decided on.

H&R OE's on stock shocks, & if I still have the car in another 20k I'll replace the stock shocks/struts with Bilstein B8 sports. I think on the upgraded Bilstein B8's you may be able to run a super sport spring. But OE is plenty for my roads.

Nope, I live in Atlanta now, but I did live in Jersey before this, so I understand your concern. The OE is the perfect drop for daily and the V8 S5. My only thing is... I feel like the springs could be smoother, I'd like to ride in a car with HR coil overs to compare. Also, I plan on getting new wheels.. And I want to tuck just a littttllee more than my current spring set up...

    Totally understandable.

Quick question about H&R OE springs

I've had my H&R OE's ready to go on for about 4 Saturday's now. Got them via my friend who switched to coils to go lower.

It rained the last 4 Saturday's we were supposed to put them on I'm starting to get irritated lol. He's about a hour away so it's worth paying him a visit & him & I put them on. Since he's done the job several times now ;)

I had H&R OE springs for about 3 months, the drop was conservative, removed the wheel gap while it ride just a little stiffer than stock.
It clears NYC roads and no problem getting on driveways.

I have the OE springs for sale if you are interested, used for only 3 months and mint condition. PM me for more info.
    Cheers.

Have had the H&R OE's with stock shocks on mine with 19" rims for over 3 years now and they are just fine. See my sig pic for the look. No problems and since I dont track it, any firmer would be tiresome..

How many miles on your stock shocks? I'm still on 19" wheels as well and I have 70k on my 2010 S5. Everything currently feels tight I'm pretty cautious on bad roads now avoiding harsh bumps, even trained the fiancé ;)

I figure since the labor is free to put on via me & my friend. I'll toss em on and if I still have the car in two years I'll upgrade the Bilstein B8 sport shocks at around 90k-ish. That is if they even degrade. I've heard many people run H&R OE 50k miles either problem on stockers. I can no longer take the wheel gap lol. I actually already have 15/20mm ECS tuning spacers on the car as well.

Also on stock height the front is a 3 finger gap and the back is 4. Is this normal ride height? Just looks off to me from the side and yes I've measured on a level surface

I'll have to check mine, stock height. Keep in mind I have 15/20mm spacers. I'll check mine later.
