    Scratch!

    Hey All,

Buddy of mine jumped in the car with muddy feet. When I went to clean it off the door sill a rock that was mixed in the mud got on the cloth and I scratched the sill plates :( anyone know if these are actually metal? I can't tell but I was thinking about trying to use some metal polish to fix it. Any thoughts?

I don't think they are actual metal, and even if they are, that would take a lot of polishing to get out. I would plan on just replacing them and possibly clear filming them in the future to prevent.

They definitely don't seem metal. If they were, that was incredibly easy to scratch. I wasn't using any pressure at all.

I think replacement is the only option.

I'd pick up a bottle of Scratch X and give it a try. Worse case you're only out a few bucks.

I had the same type of thing happen with a buckle on my briefcase and the rear door sill. It now has a dent in it which bothers me to no end.

    Scratch!

Totaled absolutely! Great time to upgrade IMO ;)

I always tell my kid to lift his feet carefully when he gets in with his baseball cleats. Although I think he's gotten annoyed with me asking & switches to sport flip flops now before he gets in lol.

If it really bothers you you can often find these trims on eBay from parted cars if it doesn't buff out. Sometimes can find them not in pairs just keep checking. At least it's on the passenger side, otherwise I would say don't look down when you get it lol.

I'm pretty OCD & even this wouldn't bother me much since its in the door jam. It would just slightly Erik me when I dry the door jams when washing the car ;)

They are alloy. I would buy a new one. It would bother me quite a bit. A green scotch brite pad might blend it some but the alloy trim pieced are usually anodized so the scotch brite would take that off...

I used to religiously cover the sill plates on my Mk4 R32 with painters tape before taking it in for service appointments. I haven't done that with the S4 though, and haven't had any scratches (yet). I'm sure I'll go crazy when the 1st scratch appears though!

Not to hijack, but figured this is a good thread to post. I was traveling on the highway and got two pretty good chips on the hood. What is the best way to remedy this (yes, should have gotten a clear bra)?

If you have the money, get it professionally fixed. If on a budget, try Dr Colorchip, i used it and it works great.

I got my front bumper repaired a few months back after someone rubbed it on a tight turn. The seam where the bumper meets the fender is off by about 1/16" and it bothers me every time I look at the car........

I think that might be a very simple fix. Check the bumper retainers found on the top right and left ends of your bumper. They are located directly behind the top screw in your wheel liner. Your bumper should snap into them. When you have your bumper on by the two screws just above the grille only, you can move the bumper around and make sure it's properly aligned. You might not need to go through all of that hassle and just clip them in on the sides but it's an option. Hope any of this has helped/made sense.

Dr. Color chip and get the small little squeegee tool. Dot the chip, wipe with the squeegee to level and then wipe off the excess with their solution.
