    My introduction!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It's been 6 months of laziness when it came to registering, but here I am! Bought an 04 S4 back in November with 103k on it, and I'm very pleased with it so far! I've wanted one of these cars since i first saw bam margera's nogaro blue b5 in the cky videos when i was like 13... cool to say i finally got one at 27.
it came from a dealer down in west long branch NJ, so I believe its bone stock minus the Rs4 reps(hit or miss with me somedays)

Since I noticed this about a week ago I figured I might as well bring it up. been having a slow power steering leak and I'm not totally sure whats the culprit here. Is it possible that its my cap?

as you can see in the first picture you can see some fluid down in the corner of the plastic covering, and then you can see the reservoir looks quite wet which it is. Just thought I'd throw this one out there

I recently had a problem with my power steering leaking all over the place, found out it was the hose going to my rack. There are a few threads out there about it, it seems to be a common problem due to the heat of the engine and the proximity of the hose to said hot engine. It makes the hose dry and easy to crack. Due to the pressure in the line, it will spray all over the place, making it hard to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. This is a DIY project, if you have the patience. I personally took it into my mechanic, and had him wrap the new hose in heat resistant tape. I am 90% sure this is your problem as well.

Welcome to the forum! That's a great story. Years ago I daily saw a b6 S4 avant in the same lot I parked in. I owned a b5 a4 avant at the time. I was smitten. Years later one came up on the local market. I hemmed and hawed about the asking price, but eventually bought it. It's cost me a pretty penny, but I don't regret it. Long story short, getting the car of your dreams is priceless.

Thank man I'll definitely take a look into this. I already had both lines going to the cooler replaced so I'm definitely gonna consider a DIY approach if it's another line.

After chatting with a tech support person on Audiusa, I found out this car was originally bought from Audi Carlsbad. Just outside San Diego, CA. Wild... no wonder it doesn't have the cold weather package!

Same with my Avant. It was originally sold by Beverly Hills Audi. I don't really care about the lack of heated seats, but I would really like a heated steering wheel.

I decided to take a further look at things (if you can really even call it that with the room we have under our hoods on these cars lol) and I feel like this might be what it is. Nothing behind or around the tank has any PS fluid on it at all, and the reservoir tank never gets bone dry either which makes me think it cant be a hose leak, otherwise i think it would spray in more area's if it were the line going to the rack like mentioned above. Anyone got a part# for the tank? just incase.

Wow, just creeping on my own profile and finding this makes me remember how disgusting my car was when I purchased it haha.

Gonna turn this into my own personal update thread, here it is as it sits right now. Exactly how I've wanted it to be looking all along.

I bet someone topped it off and didn’t realize that you don’t fill up that reservoir.

Usually the power steering return line. However, I had the high pressure P/S line start leaking on me. It was a good thing my engine was coming out at the time cause I do believe the engine needs to be pulled for that particular line. Otherwise it’s a nightmare trying to feed it though that hot box

In regards to whatever that PS leak i had was, i ended up using some bar leak and i haven't noticed a drop of fluid on the ground since i did that over two years ago.
