    :: ECS Tuning :: Turbo Muffler Delete Collection| B8/B8.5 Audi A4 2.0T

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

Modern 2.0T Audi models come from the factory with a power robbing OEM turbo muffler to reduce turbocharger harmonic noise. Many have developed a simple method of bypassing your restrictive factory turbo muffler with a single billet aluminum piece.

The Turbo Muffler Delete eliminates the vented OEM muffler tube, allowing air to pass uninterrupted through the compressor outlet. This dramatic increase in airflow allows the turbo to operate more efficiently while enhancing the sound characteristics of your engine.

    Improves turbocharger sound and response.

Pardon the ignorance, I have an APR K04 and am wondering if this is incorporated into the K04 or if this is something that can be added...

keen to hear a sound clip of one of these things installed - without an aftermarket intake installed that just confuses the matter of the sound increase

A few of my car buddies have experience with these, and they say they are pure and he oil. You gain a little more noise from the turbo. Get an intake for a few more bucks if you want woooosh!

It isn't compatible with the k04 the muffler is built in and not removable.

I plan to get one of these just for a little extra audio, but trying to spin it as a performance product is a little ridiculous.

Here's a perfect example of where the dividing line is amongst us regarding 'performance' aftermarket pieces.
On one side, you have the group that equates 'performance' strictly to hp/torque gains. If the part in question does not directly affect a quantifiable gain in power/speed, it's deemed essentially as useless or unnecessary.
On the other side, there's the group that views the part in relation to the overall effect it has in terms of 'optimization.' Positive hp gains are merely 1 facet of the car as a whole. A good example would be something like a turbo intake hose or a turbo muffler delete. Though neither actually contribute to dyno gains, they simply aide in helping the OEM turbo perform at an optimal level. Translation: it may not pull harder but it's breathing better which means it's less likely to dip on the driveability scale. I find it hard to believe that these tuning companies are simply churning stuff out to hoodwink the aftermarket consumer.

It just comes down to semantics really..

    Just my 2 cents.

It's as easy as changing your air filter, but from underneath your car. Loosen one hoseclamp, take out 3 Allen head screws, reverse and you are done. Can seriously be done in less than 10 minutes.

They all accomplish the same goal. I would choose whichever one you like best or what brand you want to support.

Anytime you can straighten out the air flow path for incoming air to the engine it's always better than it swirling around. I think as children we all learned the quickest way from point A to point B is a straight line. Same concept applies here. Though you may not see gains on paper or feel them, improving the air flow characteristics of the intake will allow the engine to work less. We learned quite a bit about this vehicles intake track while building and designing our ECS intake. Below is a blurb our lead engineer made about the intake system and ECU on this vehicle and how changes in air flow can effect the vehicle.

This vehicle has some ECU logic that you simply cant get around unless the vehicle has a tune specific for an intake. My observation shows that the ECU is heavily torque governed, so a ECU wants a certain power output and will do everything it can to hit that number. What our intake does is allow the car to hit that requested torque number easier with less stress on the engine and ancillary systems like the turbo and intercooler. What you get with our intake is a more efficient design, simple as that. The car does not have to work as hard to produce the same power output, and that is seen in the turbo outlet temperatures, turbo inlet pressure, and the ECU knock readings. The stock ECU was pulling as much as 3 degrees of timing and running higher boost (0.3-0.8PSI) more to hit the same power output as we did with our intake under the same conditions.

When products are virtually same, buy the cheapest. That makes the companies compete and brings down the price of all of them.

    Thanks.

I realized after asking that question it had put you/ECS in a tough spot.
