Got and Installed Chipwerke Pro Last Night: Reflections

Overall, I'm happy. Hell, overall I'm elated. I purchased it from another guy who was getting an RS5 so I was fairly confident he wasn't having issues but was just getting a new motor (V8). The unit came yesterday and I was proud of myself for waiting to install and going to the gym first. Got home, and even before showering, I unboxed everything and installed. It's really a 10 minute install. My harness was already prepped with zip ties so I just installed everything as he had it. It's just unplugging two map sensors, plugging the harness in and then the sensors into the harness. I ran the box over behind the drivers side headlight and ziptied it to a cooling line. I'll go back in and do a better job of installing /cleaner job later.

So, I go out and I just felt this goofy grin coming over my face. You can feel it for sure, even at lower speeds. I finally get to a spot I can open it up and in S auto mode, I got a bit freaked out. It short shifted first and then second, but you could still feel the power. I flipped over to Manual and it was awesome. A little hesitation at first, but it really came together after about ten miles. I think all of it was stemming from adapting to the car even after resetting codes before starting the car. I'm thinking I'll beat on her for a week and it should get even better.

Best way to describe it: a stupid, poo eating grin as your RPMs are climbing. I can think of no better analogy. I went back into s/auto mode and the short shifting seemed to dissipate as well as much of the delay. I think any delay I'm feeling now is only in my mind bc it just initially freaked me out.

I may pull my positive battery cable tonight just to ensure I'm doing everything but overall, I'm a happy camper. I did freak out while testing it in manual mode. I floored it in second gear at one point and it took off and then immediately bogged down. I freaked until I saw it was the traction control light going off and I'd spun the tires. I turned esp/nanny state off and it was AWESOME. In my old SRTs, we would get diablo sport tunes and that was cool, but the power you get from this thing is ridiculous. Yeah, an ecu tune might be better/more power/more refined, but damn, for a quarter of the price and ensuring your warranty, this is a dag gone no brainer here folks. I just want to keep monitoring it and also make sure my install is exactly where I want it but overall, my grin's still on my face!

    Great!
Coincidentally, I had my cw delivered yesterday and installed it last night.
I disconnected the negative battery terminal overnight and drove to work this morning.
So I need more drive time to get a better read on the differences/improvements our cw will make.
Good luck with your cw and let us know how things go over with moire driving.
Do you have a 6MT or the DSG?

Yeah, sorry: I've got a DSG car. It drove well this morning but I couldn't really get on it in morning traffic.

Ive had my Chipwerke on for about the last 10,000 miles and its been great. Good bump in power! I just got the box updated for stage 2 and bought the CTS pulley, curious to see how much power Chipwerke stage 2 has!

I've got a lease and may consider this. Any concerns on a leased car I may need to think about? Seems like a reliable plug and play unit

Just installed my CTS pulley with updated stg2 CW pro two weeks ago. Didnt feel too much of a difference, I think that's due to I didnt reset ecu. The after-shift hesitation problem feels a bit more serious. I might change the settings to 3-1 later before I get serviced and $$$ and go for a 'proper' tune. The jerkiness is driving me crazy.

No need to worry to much, just be sure to remove it before you go to the dealer you are good to go. Use VagCom to clear DTCs or leave the battery disconnected for a night after you install / remove CW is recommended.

    BTW:
If you are looking to get some more power, CW is currently the only way you can go. You can also upgrade the intake but just be sure to bring it to stock before you go to the dealer, otherwise they can manually mark you TD1 if they are jerks.
Also consider to upgrade: powertrain mounts, sway bars, brake rotors+pads, wheels+tires, interior leds, led turn signals and reverse lights. These mods are easy to install and reversible.

Do I need vagcomm to clear potential codes or will disconnecting battery do the same?

As for CW install/uninstall, they are the same. If you want to do other stuff like checking fault codes and doing some VCDS mods VagCom is very useful.

Interesting. I would definitely reset your ecu but also when I got my chipwerke back from from getting it updated for the pulley Murat said to use it on the 5-1 setting. This is for 91 octane also. Maybe your getting some bypass with the setting too low. I haven't installed the pulley yet so I'll see how it goes when I do..

I actually drove to CW to get the update. I haven't checked the settings yet but I don't think they left it too low. It could be the crappy CA 91 too. Also, leaving the settings high leads to more jerkiness but leaving the settings low leads to less power. Such a headache.

Yeah I feel you, always runs better and smoother with higher octane. I'll probably go epl sooner rather than later!

I'm running 5-1 now...with 93 and a 6MT. Tossing in 5gal of e85 gives it a real nice boost, of which I was told I can take it to 7-1 without the pulley.

I'm just happy that with the MT...I don't have all the lag issues the automatic folks are talk about. Only wish...that we has a little higher rev limit. Its so easy to hit in 1st...

I was about to pull the trigger on EPL until I saw 034 is working on a tune too. I will wait to see the result of 034's project while having 3k miles away from next service.

I'm sure that's going to be a solid option! 034 is only an hour and a half away from me too

Well, 5 hrs from me... Lucky you. I guess you can call them to be an early bird. For me, 10 hrs drive for a tune is just not worth it.
There might still be a long way for 034 to release their stg2 and dsg tune though. If I couldn't wait until then, EPL is a great option too.
