    A4 Coil Pack

    Hi All,

My wife called me on the way home last night to say the check engine light was flashing and the car was running very poorly.

Of course my mind jumped to all the worst scenario's but a quick read of the forum seemed to suggest the likely cause as a coil pack. I plugged Carista in and it identified cylinder 3 as a misfire. So, swapped 3 and 1 coil packs, reset OBD and waited for it to trigger the CEL again, about 5 seconds! Sure enough the misfire is now on cylinder 1 so coil pack it is.

My question is this, am I ok to change just one coil pack, or should they be changed as a set?

    Thanks

I think you can replace just the bad one and you should be fine.

You CAN just change the one, but if funds permit, I'd recommend changing all four. Whats to say age didn't play a role and another one isn't on it's way out?

Don't do that. Replace all 4 and save a headache. I would say go OEM but the advance auto parts coilpacks have lifetime warranty and i had them since 50k miles and i'm at 102k miles and still working perfect. If they go bad for what ever reason change and get a new one for free. But if you want to go oem that's the safest way.

No,don't just change one if finances permit...I was showing that info just so he doesn't mix and match wrong.

Like some physical ailments that just creep on slowly and are almost unnoticeable plug packs are the same. That one change lifted pickup amazingly. My originals were OEM 140,000km
