    Broken RS7

Hi guys. I posted this in general forums but I feel this area may be more relevant.

My 2016 RS7, leased brand new from a dealer had catastrophic engine problems 6 months in and the dealer is taking a very long time to fix it (>30 days and counting). The entire engine is being replaced under warranty but I feel that the car, once repaired, will have issues for the life of the lease (I'll cross that bridge when I get there).

How long is the consumer supposed to wait for the dealer to fix the vehicle? 30 days? 60 days? Until they're done? Lease payments are still being made, as well as insurance.

Does anyone have experience with this scenario? Thanks in advance.

Lemon laws vary by state. What state do you live in? Have you contacted Audi of America regarding this issue?

Good thing you didn't tune it! Also, nice name

Look up ca lemon laws I don't believe you should be making payments if cars at dealer but I'm not a lawyer.I think with replaced motor car will be fine until the end of the lease. Good luck

If I ever get the car back, I'm going to tune it with GIAC stage 1, unless a stage 2 is out later this year. Haha...

If this goes on past 60 days I will request a performance RS7 for the remaining 24 months. Or a deep discount on a '17 R8.

Dealer is taking a long time fixing it because its a warranty claim - they get paid less. Talk to AoA and look what the lemon law is in your state. I believe you have to give them the opportunity to fix the car or you can't lemon law it, but that may differ by state.

Interested to know what happens eventually - keep us posted please.

I had my transmission go out on my RS5 at 5k miles. They had car for a month. I contacted AOA and they compensated me for one months payment ( was not even financed through Audi). At the time, their nicest loaner was a new A7 which they gave me. Just call and be nice :-)

Had a similar issue (also with an RS 5). AoA stepped up -- flew in a tech and gave me a significant credit on a new Audi.

Hence the exclusive color on my S6…

I'm very curious what your catastrophic engine problems is and the symptoms...can you elaborate?

    I thought RS7 has a solid reliability.....I'm concern about my 16 RS7.

I spoke with several lawyers today and they had different opinions on how to approach this. However, I did not get a single lawyer who was not willing to the case. Per the counselor's recommendation, information is no longer to be communicated on these boards, whether posting or private messaging. Bottom line is... an engine replacement is a huge problem for the manufacturer. But... driving a car hard can actually void the warranty, even if it's 918. Interesting.

Who is to define what driving a car hard represents? that seems like a bunch of legal BS from car manufacturers.............. I had a 2000 Porsche 911 that was a ticking time bomb and I never knew it until i went to sell it and someone was nice enough to tell me. when i did the research i found out that 911 years 99-02 had a significant potential problem that forced a class action lawsuit against Porsche, you have to be very careful with all these car companies just in it for the money couldn't care less about the consumer

Multiple lawyers to investigate a car engine repair that has taken 30 days sounds ridiculous to me. I assume it takes a couple weeks just to get an RS crate motor. At this point the dealer is not liable for anything. Sure a payment may be covered but grow a pair and make a phone call to the dealer or AOA.

Agreed. When my transmission went out, it took three weeks to get it from Germany via boat. I can't imagine AOA not covering a couple of payments for you. Just ask

Agreed. They don't just have piles of RS motors laying around state side. I'd wager they don't have even 3-4 just sitting around int he crate anywhere this side of the pond. As long as they are replacing the motor under warranty, provided you with a loaner that is generally acceptable and will compensate you for the payments you are making while not having your car, then they are doing everything they can.

As for the lawyers, they will almost always take a case, I wouldn't use that as a barometer. Give the dealer some time. Have you even spoken to them to see what their hold up is? If not, you need to give them a call to get a better understanding rather then just raging out. None of us like being without our toys, I imagine those goes triple for those with the toys that have RS badges, but just try and have some realistic expectations and make sure the dealership is setting and meeting those expectations.

Me personally, I'd accept 1 or 2 month (s) complimentary payment(s) from Audi along with a nice loaner and leave the lawyers out of it for now.

Your lawyer fees will exceed the payments on the car, assuming you have a typical financial setup.
