    Hi guys.

My 2016 RS7, leased brand new from a dealer had catastrophic engine problems 6 months in and the dealer is taking a very long time to fix it (>30 days and counting). The entire engine is being replaced under warranty but I feel that the car, once repaired, will have issues for the life of the lease (I'll cross that bridge when I get there).

How long is the consumer supposed to wait for the dealer to fix the vehicle? 30 days? 60 days? Until they're done? Lease payments are still being made, as well as insurance.

Does anyone have experience with this scenario? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that.. 6 months in and it's tanked? I'm not sure if there is an official timeline for that since a car usually doesn't have the motor tank on it in the first year..

Did they say why the engine suffered catastrophic failure? What is the reason for them taking this long to repair, is there a parts delay?

I know what that feels like and I'm sorry you're going through it. I wouldn't wish my car problems on my worst enemy (seriously).

For what it's worth - it took Subaru of America almost 6 weeks just to replace a turbo and downpipe in my Legacy GT(under warranty)...... and a Subaru Specialty Performance shop just took 3 weeks to replace the engine in the same car - this is a large repair even for places that know what they are doing.

The fact that they are covering it is good - if there are time issues I would discuss them with with your dealer and remind them the cost outlays for a car that is not being driven - but be careful how you do it as they can certainly do nothing - but I but with a gentile reminder they'll provide something to help.

By California law, they have 30 days to fix any and all problems.

Either a new car or compete financial restitution. Heck, California even requires that the balance of any extended warranty or service contracts be refunded as well. But making all that happen will almost certainly mean retaining the services of a lawyer.

Neither Audi USA, nor the local dealer, will have any desire to make it easy. If they made it easy, dealerships would be buying cars back on an hourly basis. You make money selling cars, not buying them. And since Audi is in the business of making money...
