    New ac compressor options?

Hello, my ac compressor went bad. I got under the car and came to this conclusion due to the fact that the drive shaft on it is not spinning, and I'm getting hot air. Anyhow I don't have a ton of cash right now (going through divorce) and live in Georgia and its absurdly hot already. I found a compressor for $250 made by r&y compressors. Will this work for my car? I don't want to say it but I'm kinda desperate it's so damn hot

I'd recommend you look through this thread that's on the front page right now. It has a lot of info from various people about the AC compressor replacement for this car.

Thank you, I just went through and read that whole thread. However that doesn't quite help me on whether or not I can use that compressor. It's the same part number. My symptoms are, hot air with temp on low and fan on high, Econ light is not illuminated. On vagcom, the pressure reads 3 bar. I did a vacuum and refill on the system, there is no leaks in the system. Also on vagcom, it reads that the compressor is getting voltage, however there is no torque present. I verified by getting under the car and locating the drive shaft, it doesn't spin the way it should with the car running, however I can take a long screw driver and get under there and spin it. It spins freely when I push it with the screw driver.

It sounds like the shaft is broken. If your system has no leaks, I don't think the compressor needs to be replaced, but unfortunately removing the shaft means removing the compressor as well, thanks to the orientation of it. The shaft should be turning if the engine is running, as the compressor is a direct drive clutchless design that relies on an internal swash plate to regulate AC output. The shaft is direct drive from a drive unit on the back of the engine that also operates the power steering pump. If it's not turning, something is damaged, hopefully just the shaft and not the actual drive unit gear.

    Shaft: 079260095D

    It's about $85.

As for whether or not the compressor you are looking at would work (if you even need one), you'd need to post a link to it so we can see what it looks like.

I thought I remembered you posting about this before:

Based on what you said back then, your compressor might be toast as well. Honestly, although a compressor isn't something I'd call "Cheap," if you are delving far enough in to remove it and get to the shaft, I'd replace it as well. It would suck to put it all back together and discover your compressor is shot when you had it out and in your hand once already.

I've been through 4 Georgia summers without A/C and it sucks. I put in a new compressor from discountacparts.com last year and it's been working great. I believe they go for $295, but if you call and tell them you've seen them go for $265 previously from them on eBay then they will give you that price. Also make sure to get a new drier and orifice tube

A year or two (2) ago, I was "told", my A/C Compressor - Factory original Oct 2005 build, was "making noise", when system was fully recharged - at an Audi Dealer, (I won't go there, again).
This was their third, "try" to find why, the system charge would only last one (1) year - and failed each Summer... in AZ!

On my own, with a sniffer/uv tool, I found the "leak", that was causing the issue - in the Coil/Condenser.

I dilligently, searched for the OEM Original MFR for Audi - best I came up with - DENSO... specific to VIN...

I dilligently, collected all the VW/Audi seals, valves and OEM, (I thought), mfr parts - the Compressor was/is a DENSO - from 034 out of CA, at that time it was the most reasonable $ for what was thought to be OEM Original MFR. Still, not inexpensive.
Since the A/C Compressor replacement Work, is what I'll call - Major Work - my mechanic & I replaced the punctured Condenser, the two (2) schrader valves, the VW/Audi seals, used a Snap-On A/C "tool" (brand new...) did the evac, tests, recharge, and the compressor stayed in the box, until mine "went" - so far so good!

But, what I learned in this - DENSO, is the OEM Original MFR for, mine at least B7 S4 Avant A/C major components - specific by VIN...
The thought to be OEM Original MFR, advertised as such, Condenser - "wasn't"! The core may work fine, (and so far mine has, so far), but the mounting plate/brackets for the power steering surpentine coil, are: solid aluminum "blocks", vs. the bent metal "clips" in the pretender...
So, my mechanic and I decided, since the A/C Condenser is the "leading plane" of Road Debris, and the DENSO is the real-deal - I paid the full VW/Audi price for the real VW/Audi Condenser!
Now, it sits in a box - waiting...
