    Radiator coolant flange replacement?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yesterday, the small nipple on the flange broke when I moved the hose. Hot fluid sprayed all over my arms. Not fun. Good thing I was in a parking lot and was able to jimmy rig the hose over the broken nipple.

I found a replacement, but also need a new small hose. Unfortunately, Audi elected to sell the entire assembly as one unit. I will probably just get a similar size hose and use that.

Question: is there an aftermarket aluminum flange? That plastic can get brittle. I can go homedepot and make a brass one, but that'll look ghetto.

Seems like a poor design for something that has to deal with so much heat.

I just replaced mine for $12 on Amazon. Works and fit like stock.

The same part on FastEddie's car failed while at QDM. It only leaked at the plastic seam fortunately and he was able to patch it up. I broke mine last year the same way you did.

034Motorsports, we know you love to make cool parts that fix flawed factory designs. Please CNC us a batch of aluminum replacements. The same part fits B6/7 S4 and the RS4.

    This sooooo much!

I have broken a bunch of those coolant elbows. They get so incredibly brittle and snap right off. A new elbow is cheap at like between $3 to $20. But I would rather pay like $40-60 for a metal one to never have that problem again.

I completely agree on not having to replace it again! Can't be too difficult to CNC this part.

I just came across this thread and figured I'd do some research for you guys. I found a metal one that may work. It unfortunately has the extra bung coming out of the bottom and I have no idea if the ID hose that is supposed to be used with it is the same or similar to an RS4.

Best case scenario- Someone buy this (it's cheap, $30) and hopefully the hose size matches. If it does, either cap the extra bung or cut it off and have it welded shut.

Just had to replace mine too. Still smell coolant on hot days from the massive amount that sprayed everywhere in the engine bay. I actually found a replacement at my local autozone for $12. Was a fun fun day

Yes. I'd rather wait for 034 to make one.. unless they say they never will -- then I might go this route.

I think that aluminum piece will work. Seems these are all the same size, just slight variations. I would use radiator hose and a bung vs a plain rubber cap.

Awesome research! Looks like that piece I listed above is a total possibility when comparing them like in the picture you show. Who is willing to try it out? If I had an RS4, I would hands down get it done.

Was going to see if 034 was going to chime in soon, then go from there...

there's no money in it for them. It took the b5 crowd years to get someone to make a metal coolant flange, and there are 100x more b5 a4's on the road than rs4's. Even adding rs4 tax wouldn't make it worth it for them. In sure they would have to order 10k units to actually get someone to cast them.

Might actually useful as a drain point. Can drain the reservoir/over flow tank this way while the thermostat is closed.

I am willing to try it out on my B6 S4. Don't have a RS4 but it should be similar.
