Correct. You will want a North American RNS-e if you don't want to flash. There is a 2010 North American model number now but I don't know if its a straight swap like all the previous versions. There's a large thread about it on audiform.

All North American disks are compatible for North American RNS-es.

However, you'll definitely want the newest maps DVD, because these DVDs include firmware updates for the RNS-e as well. That is, unless you want video-in-motion (for playing DVDs, or back up cam), which has been disabled for software versions 0260 and above.

Edit: For that last DVD part number (AR), AGCC means "Arab Gulf Countries Council". You don't want that one.

I just got an RNS-E from a 2006 A3. I was wondering if all the Nav DVD's will work in it. I believe some are MMI disc's if I am correct. Will the MMI discs work in an RNS-E or do I need a disc specific to the RNS-E?

    Thank you for any help/clarification!

Only DVDs that say RNS-E on the label will work, MMI DVDs won't work in the RNS-E.

Thank you very much for the help

Now I just gotta wait and see if this unit I purchased has a DVD in it or not...

Now my next question is, what is everyone's preferred way to connect their iPod to the unit?

Is this true for sure? I've got a 2010 unit, but the PN is 192T, indicating old hardware, correct?

I just purchased a 2011 A3 TDI and the audio system says Audi Concert. Does this mean it would be better to go aftermarket or could I still go RNS-e? Which would be the best option? I've seen some nice aftermarket systems for half the price of the RNS-e.

    Cheers,

    Bill

You can retrofit a RNS-e fairly easily; audiforum.us is a good place to learn how to do it. You'll need a VCDS cable (or access to a friend with one) to reprogram the car to recognize/accept the new headunit.

I have a 2004 s4 sedan with the 2-din tape + 6 CD unit (don't know if it's symphony or symphony II?) and I have the Bose audio option.

Sorry if this has been answered but I read through everything and it's all a bit much to understand at the start. I am interested in installing the RNS unit, but not sure which version (RNS-E, D etc) and I want the Bluetooth option. Could someone list the parts and costs of each to do it? Is it something that is a plug and play install or would I need to have it installed professionally with the Bluetooth unit?

    Thanks so much!

if it is anything like it was to install into my 09 A3, there isn't really a kit needed. you need removal tools which you can get off ebay or likely one of the install placed in town, maybe even audi. just 4 little metal pieces that look like key blanks. also a 32 pin connector you can get from audi parts for about 28 bucks. i have the part number somewhere if you need me to dig it up. you use that to swap 3 wires from one
connector in the back to the 32 pin connector....this was done so i could use my OEM aux port that came on my A3. after that, it requires some VAG-COM mods to get all the features to work. that was it on my install. so far very happy i did the swap.

Alright well... After successfully using the nav for a few weeks after installing my RNS-E, my gps location is totally off now. The map DVD it came with is a burned copy and the bottom looks pretty scratched up. Could that be the problem? My gps antenna is located behind the head unit magnetized to that metal bar by the steering column which seems to be a common spot from what I've read. Audi and navteq haven't been helpful in telling me the best place to get a new map disc or which version. I'm definitely not buying one through Audi for $400 which is what they quoted me LOL. Any help would be appreciated.

    Quick question:

I've been reading all afternoon from various sources and am trying to figure out what I need to do this conversion. I have a 1999 S4, euro model so has pre-facelift centre console and concert headunit, I'm in the process of converting this to facelift now so space won't be an issue. What parts do I actually need for the conversion in my model? My dash has an analogue clock so I'm led to believe it does not have CanBus am I correct? What will I need?

    Any help appreciated.

I apologize for the necro-bump, but I have been searching without success in finding how to access the hidden EQ settings for the RNS-E with Bose. I think this is the most relevant thread for that function. Any suggestions appreciated.

Today my RNS-E display (along with other center console display) keeps getting dimmer and coming back and getting dimmer and coming back like a constant loop. Today is particularly hot and my car has been sitting in the sun, not sure if that would cause this issue. I was wondering if anyone encounter the same problem before?

Looking at the list on the first post in this thread, it would appear that the A3/S3 RNS-E is not compatible with a '00 B5 S4. Can anyone confirm or deny at their earliest convenience? Considering buying a 1st gen A3/S3 RNS-E on eBay...

    Thanks!!

Hello to everyone ! I have a power problem with my RNS-E (mk1) . The unit is mounted on an Audi a4 b6 , and it was taked from an Audi a6 c5 .The problem consists that the unit to start need a suplimentary connection beside the +,-,and can wire . The connection is made from continuos 12v to pin D13(radio on) , but the problem is that its consuming batery (the rear amplifier ) , Was anyone experience this kind of problem , is there a inside fuse ? or a relay between the main + and radio on ? P.S The unit comunicates with the dash , its chaiging the lumination ,etc.

    I found a RNS-E from an A3 cheap for sale (8P0 035 192S) can these fit in an A4?
Is the faceplate the only difference, and it's possible to get a new one, or is it not worth thinking about.

If your car needs a discrete "GALA" (speed) signal (some A4 B5 and A6 C5) then you need to find a 4B0 unit. Otherwise any RNS-E will work with proper coding. The A4 B5 and A6 C5 need the 4B0 faceplate, A4 B6 needs the 8E0 faceplate and A3 8P needs the 8P0 faceplate.
