This may be a silly question, but the FAQ mentioned you cant play CDs while navigation is active w/o a CD changer, so can you play the radio while the navigation in active?

Yes, radio and SD cards play just fine.

Can u explain how can i make several subfolders on my MP3 cards and the unit still recognize them and let me choose between them ?

    Re: General RNS-E Information Q&A

Just create the folders. When you insert the card, the RNS-E will start playing form the lowest subfolder inside the first folder. User the RETURN button to go one folder level up, or press RETURN several times to go to the root of the card.

    Hello
Question from a new 2001 S8 owner with symphony II.

So can i just buy a RNS-e from ebay from a european seller, then simply have it instaled at a local sound shop?Is it plug and play? And in order for the Nav system to work i only need to get the NA DVD ROM for the Nav???

    Thank You for any help!

    Re: General RNS-E Information Q&A

I am the new guy here and want to say hi to everybody!!! Please help me with the advice. I have bought the Audi A6 3.2 2007 model in the USA and brought it to Canada. I have CD changer in my glove department and how can I find if my navigation can work. Looks like it is CD based navigation and when I press NAV OR INFO button on my MMI the massage is navigation CD is not installed. Can I just buy the CD or I need to do something different?
    Thank you!!!

    Re: General RNS-E Information Q&A

Ok guys, looking to invest in one of these but have some ?'s about specifics of the system and its "user friendliness".

Currently in a 2007 A4 2.0tq. Enjoying the Symphony II unit (which includes the 6-cd changer), as well as the stock Audi BT integration. Was contemplating getting the RNS-E but needed to know.
    a) Will my stock bluetooth integration swap over to the Nav unit or will I have to buy the bluetooth add-on for this specific unit?
    b) Does this unit allow for a 6-cd changer to be added on, (whether in the trunk or glovebox)?
    c) What is the ipod story? Expensive... easier interaction over the symphony unit. Pictures speak louder than words for me on this one if anyone would like to help me out.
Just wondering on all this b/c the avic units were on my list of possibilities alongside the RNS. That stock look is just soo much sexier though.

-Thanks in advance to anyone who can clarify any of this for me, much appreciated.

    Re: General RNS-E Information Q&A

Bluetooth will continue to work, even better with the proper coding. You can add a glovebox changer but most people just use SD cards instead (much cheaper option and much better integrated since you can see artist/title/album on SD cards). It's iPod or CD changer anyway, not both at the same time, and all iPod integrations suck big time right now. iPod control looks and feels like CD control with your Symphony, no names/titles/etc, get the picture.

    Re: General RNS-E Information Q&A

Proper coding... so if I were to buy it now would I be able to hook up my phone right from the get go? As far as the ipod thing goes, I know the Symphony system has absolute crap when it comes to ipod integration. Im wondering if the RNS unit is any different/easier/ more user friendly with aftermarket integration. As I said before, pictures/ user testament would help a lot. Thanks, I know I'm picky about my questions, just want to make sure my money is going to good use.

    Re: General RNS-E Information Q&A

I'm going to bump this thread as I'm strongly considering adding the RNS E, but I have some questions.

I currently have the Symphony II w/o Bose. I also have, and would like to keep, Sirius. If I buy the RNS, can I reuse the same module? (I see the Sirius listed above for the RNS, but I'm not sure if they're compatible) - Would I need to call Sirius to update the device ID?

The model number Ive been looking at in the classifieds is 8E0 035 192 C (most common above).

Also, how difficult is the install? If you do not have the multicolor DIS, will the nav directions still display?

Thanks, and my apologies if these questions have been asked before.

I have been considering a major internal upgrade on my B7. I currently have the stock radio & Sirius. If I want RNS-E, iPod, & Bluetooth should I do them all at once?

Will I still need the GPS antenna if I have satellite?

Will I need to Vag-Com anything to get it all up and running?

Anyone know if this will work in a 2004 S4 non-bose with factory Nav & Sat? I contacted the seller but he doesn't know exactly if it will work for my needs.

Seller says he believes it will work with A4/S4 and includes:
    Navigation unit RNS-E
GPS antenna (which I don't need I already have sharkfin)
    Original DVD map (2009)
    Removal tools
    Security code card
    SD card (1Gb)
    Plug and play adapter
    User Manual

    Productions date: 2009/04/22
    Audi Partnumber: 8E0 035 192 T
    Hardware status: H76
    Software status: 0650

    8E0 035 192 T Audi A4 Europe, MY 2008, 8E B7, sw 0650

Looks to be a Euro model from 2008-09 models. What needs to be done to these to run in America with Nav/Sat? is the 0650 supported?

    Thanks!

Revision T is a European unit from 2008.

The software status is also European. This means the DVD is also euro.

It could also be a burned DVD with US maps patched to work with a European unit.

If you don't use the provided antenna, you'll need to buy a shark fin extension cable, and run it from the RNS-e through the headliner all the way to the back of your car where the antenna is located. The connections up front do not come stock.

Harnesses sold on the internet are hit and miss at best for Symphony II integration. Many people are fabricating these incorrectly.

Your SAT module will likely not work with the RNS-e, depending on the model number of the module. There are two revisions each for Sirius/XM modules. 1 for RNS-e, 1 not for RNS-e.

    Hope this helps.

    Thx PNW Avant.

My car DID come factory with Sharkfin/Nav in instrument cluster. I'm still at a loss on how or if the in cluster will work after in Install RNS-E, or how to get the wires from my Sharkfin into the RNS-E. Is there a cable behind the stock Symphony II I can use (the factory nav cable)?

So after reading all over the place I guess my only concern is being able to reprogram this Euro model to US. Make sure the plug-n-play adaptor wiring harness works, and then get a 2010 DVD maps disc and do another update so I'm current.

I understand that my Sat won't work unless I upgrade my sat box model. I'm just going to pass on that entirely, as I don't use Sat - did in the past, but don't care for it anymore.

A few of the threads I read were related to converting a EU model to US. They really didn't go into much detail in terms of how to start/finish, but vag-com and some software. All these threads are really old, and I don't know if the " T " model even allows for a EU to US change.

You will be able to flash any RNS-e, regardless of the revision, to be a US model.

You can use the VAG COM to program your RNS-e to display directions in the instrument cluster, in addition to the RNS-e screen.

All the S4s came with the sharkfin antenna. My car didn't have NAV or SAT radio, but all the connections are still there in the cargo area. I actually just added a SAT radio module, it was totally plug and pay. Sounds like you had the stock, b6 nav system with controls on the console.

I believe your old nav module is the back, behind the trunk panel. That's where the sat/GPS connections would be for that module. You won't have any GPS antenna connections up front, but I'd suggest just using the antenna that people are including with these retrofit kits. I had an RNSe for a while, and I just mounted the antenna behind the dash, specifically on top of my glove box. I got great SAT reception. If you are REALLY anal about the install, you'll get the extension cable though.

There's a DIY, albeit a little vague, for euro to US conversion on this telematics forum, including the files to use. Try that out.

    Good information PWN, appreciate it!

I did find a local mechanic who has a VAG COM and who can assist me if needed. Although he has never done anything with the RNS-E system I'm confident I'll figure it out from the information online.

I would really like to utilize the sharkfin so maybe I'll have to do the extension cable. I wasn't aware all S4's came with the Sharkfin though, learn something new everyday :)

Sure would be nice to have a functional nav on my inst. cluster and on the RNS-E, curious if any updates are made in the inst. Cluster with those new map discs. The graphics in the inst. cluster are pretty horrific, but still work I guess as intended.

You just get directions in the display, I believe, just like you had before. It's a pretty easy modification:

    Select Control Module > 17- Instruments > Adaptation 10.

Channel Section, type 62, hit read. Add 4 to this value, hit test, then save.

Should work within a day, coding can be finicky.

Also, when you get and install your RNS-e unit, you'll want to re-code the unit to correspond to the specific options in your car (cd changer, bose, sat, etc.) This is done via RNS-e and VAG COM and info can be found here.

Dude your question has been answered several times.

    For bluetooth you need:

    1 Bluetooth module.
    2 Bluetooth antenna
3 Bluetooth mic (unless you have Onstar)
4 Custom harness (unless you have Onstar)

    For DVD player you need:

    1. External DVD player
    2. Custom harness
    3. Software hack to allow video in motion.

No offense, but considering I've already answered this question explicitly in this forum and the main B6/B7 forum, I don't think this is a project you should undertake yourself. This is not necessarily "plug and play" work. Take it to a professional to acquire these parts and perform the work.

So just to clarify this again. If you don't want to re-flash the Euro units to US and or worry about any issues, these are the only units to buy for A4/S4 B6+ correct for direct plug-n-play US?

And these are the disc(s) I would want for the most current maps (either)? And these map discs are compatible with all these RNS-E's above?
