I know a lot of the S4 guys are and the engine is the same and all but wanted to see what you folks think.

    Thanks!

I've been using the CW piggy for about 6 months - haven't dyno'd the car before or after, but the butt dyno definitely feels the difference to be significant - I went with a piggy after my previous car ('11 S4) was flagged TD1 - this had a flash. The only gripe is a slight stutter on heavy acceleration - the spirited acceleration on the S4, with the flash was definitely more linear.

So this CW tune is similar to a cobb accessport for the n54 engines in 135i and 335i?

No where near the same. This is plug and play and tricks the ecu. It does not change any part of the factory tune.

So consensus is its a great mod in term of bang for the buck, simplicity, no td1 and with apr/giac stage 1 type gains from what I read... anyone else with a review to offer?

So all else being the same and if there would be no td1 on a "proper" tune would you still go with the cw piggy or pop more $$$ for apr/giac?

I'll go with the piggy again since I go thru' cars every year or a maximum of 2 - this way I can remove and resell - the flash tune goes with the car...did the same for my M4 - went with a JB4 instead of a Dinan flash.

A fair amount of the S4 guys complain about the DSG being very jerky with the CW. Theres a pretty extensive thread on the S4 side.

There can be hesitation on its more aggressive setting under heavier throttle inputs (50-75%) post-shift.

The CW does work as advertised, it's a simple product and not as sophisticated as piggyback systems on other platforms that can access CANBUS functions.

Same here. I'm with CW stage 2 map + cts pulley. I feel it every time when I go heavier throttle. Under wot it's pretty linear though. When I had stage 1 CW it was the same. I hate this uncomfortable feeling.

What is yours set at? I know we are using it for different purposes, but I only need mine at its more mild settings (3-1 or 4-1), which integrates nicely with the GIAC stage II file in terms of refinement and drivability.

4-1 running crappy ca 91 octane. No 93 or e85 is available around here.

Are you dsg or manual? If dsg, are you driving in D or S? Power delivery is smoother in S than D.

Dsg. I usually drive in D. I know power delivery is smoother in S and more responsive, but in LA traffic I have to use D to save some fuel.
I guess I have to go for an ecu flash sooner than later.

How is it in Dsg manual shifting mode? I just ordered CW pro on ebay. Can't wait to try it out.

I use it with 93 octane and for me it works great and I saved enough money for other performance goodies. I am Stage II. I only get the "hesitation" when the engine is cold, as long as I let it warm up, about 5 min of so, it is very smooth for me. In either D or S.

With the EPL tune you are able to sell your tune.

Here is another thread about some other users' Chipwerke experience (including mine):
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...7366-Chipwerke
I run it on a Q5 3.0 for about a week but removed it again. If you want power for cheap and don't mind jerkiness or potentially other issues down the road - I guess its not a bad mod, especially since it can be easily removed. Personally, I did not like the power lag during shifts and I was also concerned about an add-on device feeding false readings to the ECU to get the extra power gain.

Chris, do you mean "with EPL you can keep your tune when you sell the car"? I think he was mentioning one drawback of a flash is you don't get to keep your tune, if you sell the car.

If that is was you mean, that is a great benefit for an EPL tune!

Well either way whether you sell the tune out right or pay the transfer fee and keep it.
