Wasn't there a part out that the guy was selling a trans for like $350? Check out the classifieds, you will just buy another s4 if you sell this one.

I can't even find a trans in Ontario. People only sell 6-spd swaps and don't want to part with the trans. Just grab the JHM rebuild kit and be done with it

I agree with Bordom, I would not sell the car just because you need to rebuild the trans. It sounds like a well set up stage 3 car based on parts, rebuild the transmission and you'll be very happy or if you've got time, wait for a working trans to become available.

    well my symptoms are ..
insanely difficult to shift into r without finding a sweet spot between 2500-3000rpm, even then its difficult.
1-2 is a little clicky but not bad. 3rd is clunky to shift into, reallllllly hard to shift out of. 4th is reasonable. 5 and 6 are fine.
although during the motor swap i notice it was slightly worn, if that has anything to do with it. im not too keen on transmissions/clutches.

Convert to the Canadian Peso and you're already at $5k. Especially with what these trans go for used in Canada. Easily $1k just for the trans

How does it shift with the motor off? (Unless you already answered this) Sounds more like shifter alignment now

like bordom suggested try aligning the shifter first, just wondering how did your transmission problems start happening, was it a failed shift or something? if it actually is a broken trans and youre looking to sell it let me know as im in BC too

car also shifts like shit when off.

happened after an extremely spirited run in the early hours of the morning (15 mins drive done in 5 mins)

fucked up a 5th to 4th downshift and grinded hard. had immediate issues after the cooldown on the way home.

Then yes, probably have shavings in the oil that have plugged the shift collars. Definitely time for rebuild

Does the B5 S4 share the 6spd with any other audi/vw? Allroad?

Yep. Same transmission in the Allroad and A6. I believe those have all have transmission coolers though. Not that that's an issue.

Some of the early b6 models have a variation of the 01E that can work too.

    FYI:

The B6 3.0 from 02-03 is a 01E trans with shorter 3-6 gears. They are also less durable.

The C5 A6/Allroad also use 01E transmissions, but the Allroad uses a different final drive. 4.35 compared to 4.11 in the S4. You can swap the front diffs but then you would have to reset the backlash and everything for the ring and pinion to be kosher.

The Allroad also has much shorter gear 1-6

Huh, no kidding. Didn't realize that the all road ratios were any different. With the b6 3.0 01E you have to modify the speed sensor for the speedo as well.

Yeah, so the 3.0 01E, just swap the left cover and speed sensor tone ring, as well as the VSS from the B5 trans and you'll have a working speedo. You may/may not have to swap all the flanges, but that's shit simple

This is true for some of the B6 transmissions. Trb saw my car lol I have a trans out of an 03 and the speedo is ran off of the ABS sensor, the 02 B6 has the speedo ring.

Depending on the year of 3.0 you will need to put the speed sensor ring on the output shaft i believe it is on the driver side behind the diff cover. I just had to do it on my 2003 A4 3.0 trans. 2002 is hit and miss
