    Who has completely removed their Fuel Filter Lines?

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

    Hope the B6 community has been well. Its been forever since I frequent these forums, a lot of new names. So onto my third fuel filter replacement and the 4 plastic endcaps that connect to the fuel filter are so buggered up my Assenmacher Fuel Line Plier tool won't even work. So I need to replace the entire lines.

    Who has done this?
    Any steps on how you went about this to remove or advice you can give on procedure?
    Does the entire fuel tank need to be drained first?

    From a quick look under the car it doesn't look like its going to be fun.

    Picture below from a Fuel Filter DIY that shows the 4 lines I'm looking to replace.

    Thank you!

    Kinda of surprised no one has chimmed in yet. Checked my Service Manual Bible and that doesn't even explain how to fully disconnect the lines, lame!

    I or We can always take a look at my donor car and see how they come out. I am sure its a pretty easy job. Also why do you need a tool to take off the fuel lines. Just squeeze them with your finger and they come right off.

    Never had luck just squeezing with fingers, this makes life slightly easier :) Thanks again for offering to assist on your donor, Chris.

    I had no problems when I did mine.

    Also no problems when I did my fuel pump (same fittings)

    One thing I did do was to be sure to push the fittings "on" or "tighter" when I applied pressure with needle nose pliers to squeeze the locking latch free, then pulled them free.

    I know this is a vw but same principle would work for the lines at the filter if you need to change the ends without wanting to drop alot of $ and time on changing the lines. I had to do it up top on my fuel pump few months ago....still going :-)

    They sell kits that are just ends of assorted sizes and come with the clamps for them if you look around

    From another thread:::

    "If you find yourself with a connector battered and not working properly on the front side of the filter in relation to the car (rear connectors are different, but might be able to be rigged this way), carefully destroy the little ring in the outside end of the connector that keeps the fuel filter end from sliding out. You can now see the metal barb through the two windows in the end of the connector that used to hold the old plastic ring that retained the metal fuel filter barb from coming out. Remove the old end, replace the connector on the new filter barb. Notice it slides right off if you pull. Slide a couple space age nylon retaining straps (zip ties) through the side windows which are now empty, and make sure they FILL that area so that the barb can't slide back out. Done. No expensive fuel line to buy, no PITA replacement procedure"
