    Tiptronic install question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am about to attach the engine and tiptronic tranny together on my 06 S4. I seams like it was mentioned somewhere on this forum that the rind gear (flywheel) needs to be clocked a certain orientation for installation? Does this ring a bell with anyone?

    any input is greatly appreciated

I'm not aware of a significant reason other than getting it lined up so you have easy access to get that first bolt in. If it is not lined up I think you can still technically rotate it from above.
    >>Before connecting engine and transmission, rotate torque converter and engine drive plate so that one hole or one threaded hole stands at height of opening of the removed starter

The only other things that comes to mind is making sure the torque converter is seated all the way on the spline shaft:
    >>When torque converter is installed correctly, distance between contact surface of threaded holes at torque converter and contact surface of converter housing on Automatic Transmission 09L is minimum 19 mm.

thanks for the input Badger. For some odd reason there is a distinctive mark on the flywheel that must have some significance.

I will post a pic of it this evening.

I marked mine for some reason when I took off the trans but I don't remember why. Probably just to put it in the same spot in the event it was actually balanced in some fashion. But what I posted earlier was straight from the Bentley and I didn't see anything in there about marking it for any other reason. There was some of the "ribs" missing in one spot on the outer part (not sure what the name is, one of the gaps was significantly wider - look at the 9oclock position in this pic: http://i.imgur.com/OFN743g.jpg kinda hard to see it from the angle of the photo though) that suggests it might be balanced

Halfway or so through this post of mine are some pictures that may or may not be helpful. And maybe poke around elsewhere in that thread there might be something else useful depending what you are doing.
