Are you planning on sticking with these turbos or testing more options?

I only ask because I was more than shocked to see the SRM K04 turbos in action at the latest Racewars meet, so if you are taking nominations for the next round of turbo testing....

Sorry, I was away for a while so didnt see the replies looking for me to elaborate.

I wasnt there, just going off the info and video in this thread:

The avant was a SRM k04 car on pump, I am very impressed with these turbos. They are just about perfect for a stock block pump car. I wish I could have the same power out of pump gas. Don't know about longevity of them, but power wise good choice.

    Enjoy.

When asking if the SRM K04 Avant in the video was running meth:

The car is very strong for k04 frame turbos and straight pump. Very impressive.

    Sorry for the thread jack

Turbos are only one variable of making a quick car. I think we've seen over the years that not all stage 3 cars are created equally.

Hence asking for 3rd party testing here, to try to test components on their own without multiple other variables tossed into the mix. However I fully agree with you that the same parts combination on one car bolted onto another may very well not yield similar results. There are lots of variables in making hp and putting it down. Heck, perhaps the avant owner in that video preformed the super driver weight reduction mod and was just anorexic.

Chase car is DieselElectric's F21 car with meth running 26 psi. SRM Avant and F21 sedan both had passengers. Footage is raw. Edited S4RW16 video will be finished eventually. I have been extremely busy over few weeks since.

Back on topic though! I am always interested to see actual results of TTE's products. Thanks!

It would be nice to know who tuned what car as well. Might as well just go through each of the set ups. Tuner, fuel, intercoolers, exhaust, any other pertinent modifications. Stage 3 is so vague and can vary in results from car to car.

Wow Jeff you're back to upgraded turbos lol?
I've seen you go back to stage 1/2 like 3 times
already. All jokes aside TTE seems to have some
pretty serious turbo selections for the 2.7t. There's
builds across the pond with over 1,000bhp.

I was going to install the SRM K04's but the schedule did not work out. I may still try them, but I don't have them planned.

Just a FYI, but that Neuspeed exhaust has a necked down area I think at the rear muffler or at least they did in the past.

Yeah I know. But I like my car quiet and it sounds good when I get on it. I've had quite a few different setups in the past. I'm happy with my car, it runs good. Sure a new exhaust would get me 5hp?? But a whole lot of noise.

How widely purchased have TTE550s been? What kind of data exists for them besides what Jeff has done? Anyone have logs or anything else to compare it to other stage 3 setups?

I must say that the TTE550 has me intrigued as well. Especially so, since I just blew another set of K04 turbos.

But I have an old set which died with 0-miles right after start-up due to a cracked exhaust manifold sending not-so-lovely metal flakes into the hot side so it could die of FOD. So I was thinking about getting these upgraded to TTE550s with heat shielding added for roughly the price of a new K04 set.

Note: The old shop that did many unspeakable evil things to my Allroad is out of business now and I have a new shop that has painfully (at least to my wallet) corrected the evil spells cast on my engine but not before the damage was done to the most recent set of K04s

Thus curious about any data, logs and reliability information in general. If they can be posted, please enlighten our feeble minds :)

I am in the process of wrapping up a TTE550 build and I have been very happy with my turbo choice. They have a great powerband and just a lot of fun around town. The tune is almost done and we are hitting the dyno later this month. So, I'll be happy to share some data once we are done tinkering on it. My turbos are the new 9 blade design. What kind of fuel are you planning on running?

S4 John, Thanks for response and offer to share information! I was just planning on a 91-Octane tune as I'm not trying to maximize power with this build. Just to have a little more power (like an extra 40 HP/TQ vs. 100 HP/TQ possible) that doesn't run out of breath near the redline, while not having the turbos running so close to the limit in hopes of increased longevity from them.

My Allroad is just a spirited daily driver and family hauler for soccer games and hikes in the Rockies. Besides, I already get in enough trouble with a basic stage 3 BW KO4 set-up and almost got popped by laser twice this year doing 2X the speed limit. Colorado cops stepped up their patrols during the pandemic lockdown this spring/summer. But it was so nice having nearly empty highways and with a case of cabin fever, I just couldn't resist myself ;)

P.S., I did some more searching last night and found some threads/data on what Mocke was talking about. Tis sad those threads turned into a divisive pissing contest and ruined the thread!
