    Roc Euro Intake Review

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my Roc Euro intake finally showed up a few days ago and I just got the time to put it in.

    What I like:

First off, supercharger sound in the cabin is freaking awesome. I've had turbo cars before and loved hearing the spool but this is something different. I don't know if it's better but it's cool as $hit!

The divider mount/anchor is a pretty cool design. I would have never thought to use drywall anchors for this application but it works!

Although the intake pipe construction is a tad sloppy with the welds in certain areas, the coating mostly removes the appearance of it. Fit and finish of the intake pipe and the cold air divider is pretty solid. The only way it could be better is to have the top piece of the divider (where the passenger strut town is) anchored to something but that minor.

    What I don't like:

The intake pipe welds - maybe its me but I think for over $300, something a little cleaner is not too much to ask

The shipping time - we've beaten this one to death so I won't say any more.

Breather mount - rather than use the zip ties that were included, I was able to kind of wedge it in under the fender a but where it was touching a rubber mount and was pretty secure. Again, minor issue but should be mentioned. The included zip ties were too small/short and I would have rather had a beefier single tie and trimmed it down.

    Final Thoughts:

I didn't notice any real difference in throttle response or power but I am sure it makes a bit of difference on the dyno. I opted to put this on AFTER I got the Stage 1 and TCU APR tune so that could be part of it. If I had to do it again, i don't know if I would have gone the Roc Euro route when there are other choices out there, (ECS Tuning, etc) but again, it does the job.

i ordered my ROC maybe 2-3 years ago...and to this day, i still enjoy keeping it it in 1/2 gear at a high rpm before shifting on a busy city street. The amount of heads that turn thinking whats in that car is priceless. I also think it sounds great, its makes your Audi different from the rest IMO, but iam from RI.

    Roc Euro Intake Review

Picture of the divider mount anchor? That's the one flaw mine has. I've been told mine may be an older version? I bought it used here from another forum member. My divider wall has no proper mounting. Although when the hood is down it seals pretty well and sits on the wall pretty snug, I imagine it doesn't move around or wobble while driving(I can't hear any random banging or pinging noises in the car if I'm driving and taking turns) but with the hood open I can wobble the divider with my hand if I shake it enough.

Although I can use some double sided tape or fabricate some sort of extra support, I, too, might've gone with a diff route. I shouldn't have to modify a $300+ intake let alone the simple divider wall which you would think was designed with all the details and fitment thought out diligently

This is what was used to mount the divider in the engine bay.

Is that something you sourced on your own? Or came with your kit from roc euro

It came with. The screws are much shorter than what is in the picture but you get the idea. How does yours mount and what kind of hardware does it use?

That's the thing. It doesn't mount anywhere and has no hardware. It's essentially standing free and uses pressure from the pipe itself to sort of hold in place

So the seat where it hits the engine subframe where the stock box was with those two rubber plugs, mine has two holes and those drywall anchors fit in place there. What I would do is fine a long piece of Aluminum from Home Depot (1.5" wide and L-shaped) to attach to the seat of the divider. Drill two holes where the stock box fit and use those drywall anchors to keep it in place. Here is the pic from the instructions.

Where that rubber flap is, is where I would attach that L-shaped piece I spoke of above. Does that all make sense?

I liked mine when my car was stock. Then I went straight to APR Stage 2. The sound got quite annoying pretty quick.

what do you mean? the whine is more prominent w/ a tune or you were just getting on it more w/ the tune?

Stage 2 produces more boost at a lower RPM. Thus more whine

Hmm. If they redesigned the heat shield I would be interested in getting the new design. I hate how unstable the heat shield is on my Roc. Can you take pics of yours? Also, how is the connection to the fresh air inlet? Is it still just sitting up against it with a tiny rubber flap? Or is it now anchored in place like CTS's is?

Thanks for the pics! Looks much more sturdy than what the rest of us Roc owners have.

It shouldn't be hard to modify yours. Like I said above, an L-bracket and those anchors should do the trick..

That's one of the reasons I cancelled my order. The zip tie for the SAI was another and the other is the fact that I ordered and didn't receive any email, receipt, or phone call about my order for a month. He needs to redesign a couple of the things. Times have changed and others are showing him up.

I haven't experienced any movement with my roc euro. Between the placement, rubber grommets and hood it hasen't shifted at all.

Yeah, I bought mine from another member. It was new and uninstalled. $308 shipped. Not bad, if you ask me.

Now that the intake pipe rests on that metal A/C line (that I wrapped in rubber heater hose) it doesn't move at all. But, the heat shield design is still flawed, IMO.

i would've went with this but the price, the fitment, the constant whining noise kinda killed it for me. If any of you guys are on the same boat, try the Injen SP intake. It's rock solid fitment and finish, sounds great, and cheaper. But i believe the roc euro still wins when it comes to making power.

take a look at the review i put together

BTW, good job OP. you have more patience than me for sure.. haha i dont think i couldve waited for roc euro to ship considering how long they take.

Thanks. I don't think it was patience and more I was BAF with work to care to cancel the order. The Injen definitely gets sexy points (the black or the silver). All in all the Roc Euro set me back $325.00 shipped so sans the waiting, it wasn't too bad of a deal.

CTS very comparable for 280 shipped on sale, seems like a better deal.

Simple math tells us that. I am by no means recommending the Roc Euro if you want to wait but it did EVENTUALLY arrive and the SC whine is the loudest of the 5 or so that are for the B8 platform. I'm sure the CTS is just as good or better as far as build quality.

Yep, the tune keeps the bypass closed more than stock, and the smaller Pulley helps produce more boost so more whine.

When I first got the intake, I barely heard it driving around the neighborhood. Then I got the ECU flashed / pulley and I can hear the damn intake just pulley out of the driveway. Some people like this, I don't.
