    Need help with axle

Hi. Trying to replace my CV boots on my passenger side front axle. Have the axle out of the car but cannot remove the "tripod" that apparently should come off. Any tips or tricks or suggestions?

    Following that DIY. Thanks

Literally just did mine yesterday. Hold the axle with the flange head on the bottom, and hammer the section where the bolt holes are. Give it some force, but dont go crazy on it.

Keep striking and turning it, itll come. If a bearing pops off don't worry, they pop back into place

    - if you have the flange off and you literally mean the tripod section, then you'll need to remove the retainer clip thats on top. Youll see a clip with 2 small holes on either end. Once that's off, youll be able to lightly hammer off the tripod

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I have the flange off, and the top retaining clip, but now I can't get the tripod off. Been using a hammer and screwdriver

    Yes

Gently tap on the base, as close as possible to the shaft
    It will slide out

Don't use a screwdriver... Use a plastic / nylon deadblow mallet and a block of hardwood. You don't want to gouge the parts you are trying to remove. They'll just be harder to reinstall and may cause problems later on from being damaged. You need to use some force but not brute force.
Thus why you want to use the tools I described..

If you must use a hammer, ball pin or curved or straight claw then absolutely use that block. Never strike a hammer head on a piece of steel you ar trying to remove. One or the other can easily shatter. Since the strike point is very small and concentrated it is too much force. Something will give but not in the intended result...

Thank you guys very much for the replies! After 6 hours and several part store runs, finally complete. Nothing but trouble. Why do I love this car so much lol.
