    Heater pipes

Did my stat a few weeks ago, disconnected the heater hoses and flushed the heater core as long as I had the coolant drained. Should have used a pick to pull the hoses off instead of my twisting the hoses with channel-locks method. Those aluminum tubes are pretty pliable. Bent it back to a rounded-square shape, but would like to swap the bent up pipe.

Wolf Auto has these for pretty cheap. Has anyone swapped the pipes with the dash all together? Looks pretty easy, but I don't know that you can snake a new pipe in there with the dash all put together. Anyone done this on a B7?

If they aren't leaking don't mess with them. When I did my stat I watched a video where a tech started go take those off to bleed then backed off. I took this as a warning and didn't touch them. Just bled through the upper coolant pipe and all was good

The time required to take out the accelerator pedal and body trim and then mess with the clamps and gaskets for the heater core side connection is not worth the time and hassle. Like iceman said, if its not leaking on the engine bay side then leave it alone.

If replacing the heater core or aluminum pipes you will need to somehow remove those fused hoses to the aluminum pipe as bleeding through the upper hard coolant pipe will take forever.. A long 90* pick and some penetrating spray works great to break them free.

And yes its quite easy to take the pipes out once you break the rubber grommet near to the firewall free. If you do decide to change the pipes out i would do the heater core too....just dont get a cheap ebay plastic end tank one.

If you dont know already you will need a clamp and gasket set as well.

Maybe I'll pass on this. I have two clamps on the FUBAR-ed pipe, and its not leaking now. Sounds like it's more hassle than its worth.
