    13' A6 3.0T Question

    Good morning!

I really didn't want to start a new thread for just a basic question but here it goes...

I am looking at a 2013 A6 3.0T. Question is...are there any reliability issues I may have to deal with? Also, since I believe it is basically the same engine as the S4, do I have to deal with the DSG transmission service at certain mileage intervals? The current one I am looking at has 40k miles on it but just recently had the 45k service done on it as well as new tires and front brakes. Would it be safe to assume that the previous years had the T-stat and water pump issue and that they would be fixed in the 2013's?

    Thanks guys!

We don't have the DSGs in C7 in the US. Only the 8spd ZF.
Do it right, or don't bother.

Search is your friend..tons of threads regarding reliability of the 3.0T drivetrain and C7 platform out there.

To clarify, the US 3.0T cars don't have the DSG, they have the ZF 8-speed. The non-US 3.0T cars do get the DSG as well as the US 4.0T cars.

These cars tend to eat brakes...I'm at 21k on my '15 and I think the front rotors/pads are on the way out...so it's good that they were replaced during the 45k service. Good also that it has new tires, but you'll want to know what brand they installed as a good set of tires really improves the handling of these cars and a bad set really lets it down.

Be mindful of options too. If you like sporty driving, then a car with the Sport Package would be good. It includes stiffer springs/dampers that lower the car as well and it also includes paddle shifters (I think that was the case in '13, someone can correct me if that's incorrect). These are big, heavy cars so even with the Sport Package, they still have a fair bit of body roll through the corners (too much for me at least). Other options are your personal tast of course.

Overall, these are great cars. I'm on my 3rd A6. The 3.0T is a great motor that can be improved with a tune, intake, exhaust, etc. There's lots of suspension improvement options and wheel options as well. For the interior, there's things you can do like steering wheel and shifter upgrades, etc. So you can really customize the car to your personal taste if you're into that.

    Good luck on the search!

^ Thanks guys for the quick responses. The A6 I'm looking at has the same color combo as you, Aviator blue w/ gray. It's a new listing so it doesn't have pics posted yet. Do you mind posting couple pics of yours?

    Great color combo!

Here's mine with a couple of different wheel setups. I personally think a darker wheel really compliments the Av Blue exterior. The color combo you're considering is fairly uncommon, which I like.

Thanks for the pics. To me, the first wheel set up looks the nicest.

@A5MD tbh it's a great platform. I had a 2013 and now I have a 2016 A6. I also had a tune on my 2013, never had any reliability issues. However based on what others have experienced, its good to get the thermostat checked out as well the aux radiator shield installed under the tsb.
