    RS4 -Reverse, 1 & 2 not engaging post rebuild.

    Hi folks.

    -I have a B5 RS4, 2001 model with 170,000 KM on the odometer.
-Due to some internal bearing failure. The crown gear on the pinion shaft got its gear teeth ground. Which caused metal shavings to mix in the gearbox oil. This caused a grinding noise from the gearbox.
-Atthis time all the gears were shifting absolutely fine.
-I decided to rebuild the entire transmission with new pinion main shaft+ crown gear+ all new bearings+ new seals & took this oppurtunity to upgrade with JHM motorsports 1&2 Syncro rebuild kit + OEM linkage + OE Clutch fork pivot were also replaced.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Now post the rebuild. Its very difficult to engage in reverse, 1 & 2 gears. Upshift & downshift. I had to really struggle to get them to slot in.
-The rest of the gears were ok. Once in gear the tranny was smooth.
-Please help me trouble shoot. Invested a lot of money into this gearbox build.

    Cheers

    Sam

It sounds like a bad 1-2 shift sleeve or a clutch not disengaging. Shifter linkage problems are generally experienced in all gears.
