Hello all,
I own a 2010 Audi A4. It has 82K miles. About two weeks ago I got a "Gearbox Malfunction: You may continue to drive" error. I took it to AAMCO so that they can diagnose it. They said they found faults for the P174200 clutch torque adaptation limit, and P174000 Clutch temperature. They recommended I go to Niello Audi so that they can further diagnose it.
I took it to Niello Audi and they came up with the same two codes. They recommended performing TSB and performing SVM and would continue to check for transmission concern.
They performed TSB and updated TCM part number and software level as needed. The SVM update went fine. However, they said that the code for the clutch torque adaption will not clear from transmission as it is hard fault stored. They said it will only clear with no codes in transmission and tried several times.
They recommended replacing the transmission and would continue to check. They quoted me for $9,000 to replace transmission. There is no way I can afford that amount at this point.
I am thinking about getting another opinion as the "replace transmission and continue to check" part they wrote on the service notes has me second guessing their diagnosis.
Is there anyone out there that who has had a similar experience that can offer me any suggestions? I am really at a lost. Thank you.
