    Clutch Torque Adaption Help!

    Hello all,

I own a 2010 Audi A4. It has 82K miles. About two weeks ago I got a "Gearbox Malfunction: You may continue to drive" error. I took it to AAMCO so that they can diagnose it. They said they found faults for the P174200 clutch torque adaptation limit, and P174000 Clutch temperature. They recommended I go to Niello Audi so that they can further diagnose it.

I took it to Niello Audi and they came up with the same two codes. They recommended performing TSB and performing SVM and would continue to check for transmission concern.

They performed TSB and updated TCM part number and software level as needed. The SVM update went fine. However, they said that the code for the clutch torque adaption will not clear from transmission as it is hard fault stored. They said it will only clear with no codes in transmission and tried several times.

They recommended replacing the transmission and would continue to check. They quoted me for $9,000 to replace transmission. There is no way I can afford that amount at this point.

I am thinking about getting another opinion as the "replace transmission and continue to check" part they wrote on the service notes has me second guessing their diagnosis.

Is there anyone out there that who has had a similar experience that can offer me any suggestions? I am really at a lost. Thank you.

What type of gearbox you have 0AW, stronic? What is new sw version number they upgraded? Gearbox still working ok?

After upgrade sw, did they try adapt gearbox(test drive with resetting all adaption values etc back-forw etc)?

I do not know what the new sw version number is. I dont see that on the service notes. I think it is a stronic gearbox. As for the gearbox, i am no longer receiving the gearbox malfunction light. However, they said that as a fail safe, the car is driving in 3rd gear (which is scary as hell when making right turns from a full stop).

Try finding garage, who are dealing with gearbox repair, they perform proper diagnosis(not reading only fault memory), if repair will be the case, it should be 4x cheaper then swap. Just audi not usualy performing repairs...they like to swap:).

I will get you 3rd opinion, but it may take few days as its weekend, but write your gearbox PR code from sticker on service book.

If you have frontwheel drive, you should have 0AW gearbox multitronic, i just need that info to get more specific info to your problem, pr code is from label on service book,(where is all codes regarding your equipment) or somewhere next to the spare wheel, my code for gearbox is LAM, i guess.
