    2014 A6 TDI - Should I buy?

    Hi All,
I'm a long time lurker of the forums. I had a 2010 S5 Prestige that I traded in last year for a BMW 550xi (Have two small kids, so the Coupe wasn't ultra convenient...) Candidly, I miss my Audi. My wife has a 2012 Q5 that I drive quite a bit, but have never really fallen in love with the 550. It has pretty much all the bells and whistles, but I find that I just like Audi's cars better. Ok, now for the part I need advice on. I'm going to be selling my 550 relatively soon. There's a 2014 A6 TDI Prestige in my region for sale with about 31k miles. Price seems decent. My biggest concern is around the Dieselgate impact on the car's value. From reading other postings and on other sites, it appears that many dealerships are not accepting the effected TDIs in trade and with all of the negatives around the fix, impact on performance/gas mileage, I'm leaning towards waiting to find a better 3.0T that meets what I want to pay/features/color preferences.

Would love to hear some of your feedback on whether I should pass it up or not. I know it's a great car and am not looking to debate on it's merits or a comparison against the 3.0T. What I'm mostly interested in is whether it would be a poor choice based on the nature of the controversy and the impact of the value/ability to trade down the road. I'm likely only going to have this a couple years (Pre-ordered a Tesla Model 3) so this is likely to be something I run into by the time I'm about out of warranty, most likely.

    Thank you in advance!

We are probably at the sweet spot for buying a used TDI. You will be getting it at a discounted price since they currently can't be traded in. The reports are that a fix for the 3.0 TDI will be released shortly. Once that happens the current price discount will probably disappear as memories fade. Go for it. The TDI is a great car, especially in Prestige trim.

I'll second that a TDI A6 Prestige is a great car. Loved it and the mpg (45hwy). I can't speak to price/value though. Best of luck!

I currently own a 2014 A6 TDI Prestige SLine with the Black Optics package and the 20" 5 Arm Rotor Wheels.

The car is amazing. I bought it used with 29k miles for a great price before dieselgate started. I love the ample amount of torque, high fuel mileage, the way it handles on the road, the way it looks. Pretty much like everything about it.

If I had the chance to buy one for even cheaper due to the scandal, it would be very enticing. However, knowing what I paid before the emissions scandal came to light, I wouldn't pay anymore than 36k.

    Thanks!

Although not an A6, I just traded my wife's Q7 TDI for the new Q7 and took about 15% hit in value, but once the fix is made public that negative value will probably be cut by half. I loved the TDI, but it was time to move on. If it's a short term car, I'd opt for the 3.0T unless the TDI comes at a killer deal.

I would not hesitate. The TDI is an amazing car and I will second those comments mentioned earlier about the pricing discount is probably as good as it's going to get. I have a diesel SUV (MB) and the torque, power and efficiency is just an amazing combination.

In South Africa, the diesel saga has had no effect as we are not at the same emissions levels as you guys. The 3.0Tdi is a fantastic motor. Our top Audi Technical Guy has stated for the record that it is the strongest motor that the WAG make.
If I had to buy another A7, I would get a BiTdi version. Almost the same performance as an S version with half the consumption.
