Low mileage 2010 vs higher mileage 2012?

Hey there. Looking at some 6MT B8 S4's within my price range and it seems I can get either a 2010 with less than 50,000kms or a 2012 with around 100,000kms. Not interested in warranty as I have access to a shop with a lift so I could DIY most stuff.

Which would you choose and why?

Oh and as an example I'm looking at this which is priced significantly less than any 2012 S4's at any mileage. If PPI looks good should I grab it? http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/c...ationFlag=true

I'd be more inclined to get the lower mileage 2010 model. However, color and options would influence my decision. The higher the mileage, the more wear and tear on components. Even if you have access to a lift, the repairs will cost you and higher mileage increases the chance of needing the repair. Not sure if the car in your like has either Nav or Sport dif. I would not want it if it didn't

If you are going manual, get the lower mileage.

Age is only a factor when you are looking at DSG cars.

With the 2010, be aware that early models had a waterpump with plastic parts that were prone to failure. 50,000km is low enough mileage that the pump may not have failed yet. Another thing to be aware of is that thermostats tended to go on early S4s, as well.

That said, I tend to agree with everyone else - go w/ the 2010, all else being equal.

ALL 2010 with plastic WPs most likely would have failed already. It would be really easy to see if the WP had been replaced just by looking in the engine compartment. Plus those cars were given a 100k mile extended drive train and engine warranty by Audi. Don't know if it would be transferable to new owner.

2010 with lower mileage without a doubt. There are very little differences between the 2010 and 2012. If the 2010 is not a Prestige, it likely won't have seat memory and auto-dimming interior/exterior mirrors. Those were made standard in 2012. I believe the 2012 gets HD radio option as well. Although, you're in Canada, so the options up there might be different. But, either way, the difference between the two cars is minimal and you'll be better off owning a car with less mileage.

Btw, that 2012 is probably priced lower because of the high mileage and lack of Navigation.

since they are both 6mt, if I understand your post, than I would go with the lower mile car unless it has that many fewer other features and is not in as good of shape.

If it was a DSG car I would lean towards he 2012 as the 2010s are known to have more issues.
