    Unhappy Loss of audio

    Sup fellas,

I was wondering if anyone with a B8.5 has experienced loss of sound in their cars, specifically those with B&O.

I’ve had it happen a couple of times now, randomly where sound would cut-off all of a sudden, for no apparent reason. Usually it happens when listening to music through Bluetooth (Spotify).

If I switch source at that point, like say, change to Sirius, SD card, FM, etc., the sound is non-existent there either (stations are listed on the MMI screen, but it’s as if the system is muted). The only thing that fixes this is turning the car off for a minute or so, and restarting it.

I’m trying to figure out if the culprit is the Bluetooth on my phone, the Bluetooth interface in the car, the MMI, or the B&O system. The fact that once this problem surfaces, and other sources (SAT, SD, AM/FM) are affected as well, makes me think this is something to do with the MMI/B&O, and not the Bluetooth interfaces on either the phone nor the car….

    Any thoughts?

The car is under warranty, but if there’s something I can do to avoid a trip to that #$%@#^%$ dealership, I would like know.

    TIA

I did a specific reset just for the radio. Didn't feel like losing other non-related settings.... The radio reset didn't do anything.

I've had this happen once or twice when listening to music off an SD card.

    Usually resetting MMI fixes it.

I always assumed it was something to do with the SD card as that is the only time it happens.

I assume I need to take it to the dealer? If so, is there a cost associated with doing this upgrade?

Once or twice. I think once was after a car wash. Also, a few times I had one of the speakers not working and it took a while to notice the sound wasn't right. I don't really use the Bluetooth audio fwiw.

I had the MMI unit replaced because of the volume knob problem (where it goes down two notches before increasing by one, etc) and I haven't noticed the audio cutoff since, but it was very rare anyway.

Yes, there were some codings involved. As for cost, it's free with warranty, otherwise expecting couple hundreds bucks from stealership..

Could this be an amplifier issue? In one of my previous vehicles, I installed an aftermarket system and one of my amps had a fan that went bad, which would make the unit overheat. Once that happened, some - and sometimes all - of the channels would shut down as a safety for the amp so it wouldn't completely fry. If I turned my stereo off for a few minutes to let it cool, it would play music again.

I've had it happen 3 times on my 2011. There have been previous threads about this and it is not uncommon. In my case, it came back after I turned off the ignition and started the car back up. Only happens with the B&O radios. BTW, mine happened while listening to the radio.
