    Question Driver Assistance Dash Widget

Anyone know what this menu widget is supposed to show? Looks to be for something like adaptive cruise control, but don't have that option in the car. Possible that it's just a dead widget?

My best guess is that it may only work for cars equipped with the advanced driver assistance package. I'm equipped with pre-sense basic and it has yet to do anything, though i'd be interested to try that widget with cruise control activated to see if it makes any discernible difference..

Tried it this morning with cruise control on and never saw any kind of action in the display, so led to believe it's not related.

Pre-Sense uses that screen also which is standard on all trim levels, just try to hit the car in front of you and see if the display changes :-)

Haha, I'll wait until someone a little more daring than me tried that.

Anyone ever see the video of the guys at the Volvo dealer testing the pedestrian detection?

OMG. Even if you are that certain it will work, why wouldn't you drive at a safer speed, you know, just in case? I couldn't make out the language spoken, sounds spanish.

It also shows the green foot icon telling you to coast when you're too far above the posted speed limit. Mine comes on every single day in the same location on the downward side of a bridge. Apparently it picks up the speed limit from Google Earth (I have a Premium Plus so no road sign recognition) and when i get too far above it the icon comes on.

Thats pretty interesting, haven't seen that yet. It's pretty easy to get above the speed limit in this car.

Can confirm today that Audi Pre-Sense doesn't show up on this display . . . but it does work! Barely missed hitting someone.

Yikes glad you're ok. Hate to hijack my own thread but how was your experience with pre-sense?

I think it works really well, it actually goes on a lot for me, maybe i need to change the setting to warn me later, I've yet to be in a situation where it warns me of a pedestrian or auto brakes, but its really sophisticated. In that it doesn't just measure distance, I have noticed it calculates trajectory, its been different every time based on my acceleration, braking level and how quickly the car in front of me is accelerating or stopping. To contrast our BMW's Forward collision with auto brake seems to only warn you on distance based objects, if you get too close not if you're calculated to hit.

Even better, the Pre Sense Rear quietly kicked in, (actually the day I was driving my car off the lot) I was stopped on the freeway and saw a subaru hurling towards my rear and wasn't paying attention. I had to honk to make him look up and notice I was in front of him, I felt the tensioners on the seatbelt tighten and the flashers kick on, he barely missed me luckily but once the fear wore off I was very impressed!

Interesting.. Regards to the green foot/lift off icon, it seems that it happens when you're negligibly on the throttle; ie. feathering the throttle to the point that if you were to let off, it would maintain the speed you were going. It then activates the charge for the stop/start function (auto off at lights etc.). I'll try to get more info on this; I'm actually interested to see how that system works.

And same for me regarding pre-sense - i can't get anything to pop up on the screen mode..

It uses the navigation to detect curves, intersections and speed limit changes, thats why it tells you to take your foot off the pedal or start accelerating in anticipation of these road conditions.

Finally saw something pop up there today, came up with a green intersection icon and basically told me to slow down because i was approaching an intersection, although it was a fork in the road and I had right of way so shut up and let me corner dammit.

I tried looking through the pitiful video owners manual but there's not a drop of info to be found, but from the 'Driver Assistance' menu option I'm assuming that the checkable options there will be displayed in this widget. I tried setting a speed warning of 20mph so we'll see when i drive home if it comes up there when I break the speed threshold.

There's also an option in that menu for 'Predictive Eff. Assist' which I can only assume is 'Efficiency' and is related to the green foot icon, but again, zero info in the video owners manual.

I have a A4 with the drivers assistance package, so I guess I can answer this...

This widget shows you the status of the different drivers assistance options, it indicates if Active Lane Assist is on (and if it identify either lane markers), it indicates if Adaptive Cruise Control is on, and if it can see a car in front of you, and it will show if the system thinks the car in front of you is too close (and needs to make the distance between cars greater). It also indicates if Congestion Assist is active or not. It's pretty helpful if you have these options in your car, you can tell if the system is working and what it's doing and why. It's similar to the screen for the autopilot in the tesla if you are familiar with that.

That makes a lot of sense, and kind of what I thought it would be used for. I don't have that package so was curious if that screen was good for anything and turns out it's pretty much useless. Oh well - full screen nav it will have to be
