So I painted my door cards white...

It's been over a month since I did this but the results came out really well so I thought I'd share. I was inspired by another member here who painted theirs red. I chose white because I recently sat in an SQ5 with lunar silver on black interior and thought that looked better than red on my black interior. I used SEM Sure Coat brushed on with a little bit of matte.

Materials used (not shown are the gray scuff pads and foam brushes):

To do this right you must pull out all four door panels, remove the arm rest and pull out the edges of the door cards so it's not tucked inside:

Tuck the edges back inside then reassemble the door. I gave the door panels a week to dry before putting them back in the car

    LIKE WHOA!

I've used SEM before for interior work on my previous cars. The added flex adhesive is great for making the paint last on vinyl surfaces. That looks great, not sure I have the balls to do something similar yet though.

How's the texture on it? How about the chemical release fumes?

I have to say I expected something different when I saw the thread. Very nice work! Looks clean, I'm a fan of the clean look!

Also, are you high every time you drive from the paint smell?

No fumes. SEM recommends 48 hours before returning any painted leather to the vehicle. I let these panels bake in the sun for a few days otherwise they're in a ventilated area for at least a week.

Texture stays the same as the leather except for areas where I applied too much paint but didn't bother to redo as it wasn't noticeable. Any overpaint can be sanded back down to the texture--just didn't have the luxury of driving the car too long without the panels. Lights coats will be OEM in look and texture.

Daaaamn that is sick, I didn't like the red from that other thread it was a bit much for my taste. The white looks so clean though! Very well done. I think this will work out nice on my ibis white!!

I agree. Your current trim pieces clash with the white. Piano black or Carbon fiber would look great. Maybe even a matching gloss white if your could find it.

looks great. im guessing you were referring to my car. i prefer the red but the white looks pretty nice, would look great with some gloss black cf vinyl over the other trim. nice work though, i wasnt brave enough to pull out any door panels lol, just masked and sprayed.

actually looks better than I expected! Does it transfer colour when wet for example if it gets a little rain on it and I brush against it with a black shirt or something?

It is permanent. After prepping with SEM Soap, gray scuff pad and Leather prep, the paint gets absorbed by the leather.

No. It's a permanent layer. You can rub Leather rejuvenator or Lexol on it with a black cloth and nothing comes off except dirt.
