I have a 2004 a8. I'm pretty sure the o rings and plastic tube are shot. I've heard you can do this without removing the motor. Has anyone done this before?

Yes, I did mine during my timing belt service. Only about an extra hour. The motor does not need to come out.
BTW, You will want to use the aluminum oil cooler pipe available on EBay, not another OEM craptastic plastic one.
