    Brake wear

So i have a 2014 rs7 and it currently has 41,000km on it. The brakes and rotors have been replaced before under warranty for the rotor having a very large lip. This was covered under warranty as 21k should not produce a lip of that magnitude under regular driving conditions with the brake pads having as much meat left on them as they did. Now here's the issue, my brake pads are at a healthy level while my rotors have developed a lip and Screech like a 1980's corolla. Has anyone else experienced this issue? My dealers fighting me on replacing them under warranty and would like to hear if anyone else is having this issue

not uncommon, our sleeper cars like to eat brakes...I had mine replaced at 22k miles with disc-Italia ceramic pads, mine had the lip but i'm giving car back in December so I said screw it. Also didn't purchase the dampening kit. Right now the brakes do squeal a little but it's a much more high pitched squeal and not as annoying as OEM. I'm sure it's because of the lip that the rotor has but the trade off is no more dust. So to stop myself from babbling on further, I'm surprised they covered the 1st one under warranty at all, as brakes are wear and tear items and as such really shouldn't be warranted.

Do a search. Multiple posts regarding relatively short life or RS7 brake pads and rotors. First one has been covered in some instances, but that's usually been it. It is one of the main reasons I haven't even bothered researching used RS7's. Even if I could afford the car, I couldn't fathom replacing pads/rotors damn near annually.

Copy and paste of my post on another forum:
My last visit was a big disappointment so I hit up a local euro shop that came highly recommended. I've actually used them to mount/balance my winter wheels and tires. Anyhow, I told them the need (squeal + some chatter) and they cut all four rotors due to glazing/pad deposits then rebed the pads. Validated what Audi said that my pads were about 75-80% and the new rotors should be silent and hold me till my pads are done.

About a week now and they have been perfect. No sound, no chatter in the pedal when braking. Very happy. Had them bleed and refresh the brake fluid while they were at it. Cost about $340 all in.

In short, turn your rotors for a temp fix, buy new rotors and pads for a longer term fix.

Thanks for the posts! i figured this car would require lots of up keep and go through things quite quickly but didn't anticipate brakes at every 20k! i'll dig into the forums as i didn't know this section was so populated!

I'm having my 25k service done at 21,600 miles due to time, not milage.

Have 5-6mms left on the front, 6-7mms left on the rear. However, the brakes are really starting to squeak, bad. Thankfully I got Audi Term Care Select so I get a free brake service anyway. What's weird is they are loud when they're warm and quiet when cold... not sure why.

Now these are big, heavy cars and these brakes do an amazing job and bringing 4300 lbs to a stop. While the squeaking (really, howling) bugs me I'm okay with some level of it considering they are performance parts.

My front brakes and rotors were replaced with OEM at 19K miles. Never a squeaking problem before or after. My rotors had some degree of a lip when I replaced them but I wasn't surprised and considered having to replace brakes and rotors at 19K miles as a cost of doing business. These cars are gonna eat brakes.

hmmm glad to hear i'm not alone. Its quite odd as i'm coming from a s4 which is way lighter but still somewhat performance oriented i guess this brake wear is really just a cost of business with these evil monsters.

My C6 RS6 sedan went through a set of Rotors and pads in 10,000 km (just over 6000 miles) and those bad boys hurt like a bastard in cost to replace :(

I wasn't even driving it THAT hard

Some dealers are quick to advise you need new rotors. If they are not undersized (thickness of rotor less than the min) there is nothing wrong with machining the rotor and not replacing it.
