    Missing Cover in Engine Compartment?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi, I'm a new owner of a 2017 A4 Premium Plus. When purchasing the vehicle, I test drove and couldn't complete the transaction the day of. I live over 150 miles from the dealership, so we worked everything out over the phone and they delivered the vehicle a few days later. Upon delivery, I popped the hood and I noticed that one of the modules appeared to be missing a cover. I asked my saleslady about it and she wasn't sure. She took a picture, went back to the dealership and then confirmed that there should be no cover.

Since I don't have a local Audi dealer, I cannot go and check myself. It does however appear to me that there should be a cover and there are clips that would hold the cover in place. It's on the right side of the engine bay facing the car. Pic below, but I don't know if it will show since I'm a noob here.

    Thanks for looking

Looking at other pictures of the B9 A4 engine bay, it looks like there is no cover for the ECU.

Thanks. It doesn't look right to me, but if that's how it's supposed to be...

Ditto, the ECU is out in the open in the B9. Check B8ta's thread a few posts down. He has a good picture of his ECU.

That looks retarded. Seriously Audi didn't want to spend an extra 50Cents to finish it off?

Yes, this is correct this is not covered. I am a trainer for Audi and can confirm.

The ECU in the B9 doesn't have a plastic cover. And supposedly, it is well sealed. One doesn't have to worry about water leaking in. They probably don't have the plastic cover for better dissipation of heat?

One of my friends saw the ECU didn't have the cover and washed his engine bay with running water purposely to see if it would short out. But nope. His car runs perfectly. I'm not saying you guys should do it but yes (I don't have the guts to do that to my car).

It's an electronic component. They don't like heat, self generated or environmental. Notice bare metal case, cast in fins, etc. Bad enough it lives in the engine compartment.
I suppose you could enclose it in some sort of louvered or perforated enclosure but even that will retain too much heat & eventually result in failure .

CF looks like but looks out of place unless we have some CF intake... plus they have the tendency to turn green due to the heat..

also wondering about heat getting trapped in the ECU?

We will not be making a plastic version. We'll also have more carbon parts later on so this is only the beginning :) We always recommend seal coating any carbon that is exposed to heat may it be the sun or engine to prevent discoloring. The ECU is far enough away from any major heat source the cover would not cause the ECU to absorb any additional amount of heat.
