just joined the Audi family...a couple questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
first off, glad to be an Audi owner. i had a honda accord (i know, this is not a honda) now i have a 2012 A4 and i love it. the performance is fantastic. and the gas mileage is surprisingly good. i drive approx 450-500 miles a week and it has been doing that on one tank. could prob do more but its too fun to drive. its almost like it wants me to go 80-90. a couple questions i do have though. when i go to view my oil level via the MMI, it says i need to drain my oil. but i just had the oil changed 1000 miles ago?? and what would be the first thing you would upgrade on this car? tia and roll tide

This just happened on my Allroad after an oil change. Take the full cap off (engine off of course).... let it sit for about a minute. Clean the area around the opening carefully. Put cap back on and see what happens.

If it doesn't go away, you may have an overfill situation.

    Welcome!

I agree with what he said above, it's probably false reading but worst case you just need to extract some oil.

Re: the first mod, assuming you're out of warranty or don't care about the warranty, and that you have a car with Quattro, generally people do:

    Suspension
    Wheels
    Tune
    CR-15 strut bar

But that depends on what you think of your car as-is. If it's on sports suspension and you like the wheels, tune it and call it done. Let's see some pictures!

500 miles on one tank? that's amazing, I'm lucky if I make it to 300 on 15 gallons.

I have a 2014 and I have the same issue. I really don't like the MMI oil check as most of the time I experience the same thing as you. One way that it's supposed to reset, is that you turn on the car(do not start). Turn the MMI to the check oil. Then open the hood of the car completely and let open for a period of time. From what I've read, there is a switch associated with the hood of the car that is used to reset the oil level check. I have only had this work once for me. So maybe that switch is bad. Close the hood and turn off the car. Let sit and again check oil via MMI. I've also heard that it could take a day or two of driving before you again see an oil level showing.

Thanks Project! the car is a S-Line but im not sure what all that entails (suspension, gears, tires, trim package, etc) im pretty green to the whole german performance car world but i see where this car stuff could get addicting. i have the 2.0T, no quattro. engine seems strong and suspension is ok for now. more curious about HP and torque capabilities

    pics to come

Wait, the S4 and A4 get basically the same gas mileage?

No Quattro = CVT transmission... Your money would likely be better spent elsewhere rather than going for performance. The CVT won't reliably take much power... They're unreliable enough when left alone.

If you have a Premium Plus, all 2012's have the S-Line appearance package.
All it is are side sills, different front and back bumper and door sills with the badge on front fenders. That's it. Unless you have sport seats in it, it's just appearance package.
2018 S4 Prestige, Daytona Gray Pearl, Black Optic, S Sport, Napa Leather

2012 A4 Premium Plus, Monsoon Gray, Quattro, Navi, Push Start. VCDS mods needle sweep, windows up/down with fob, no wink turns, fogs as cornering lights.

Also, if you have Sport seats with Alcantara/leather seats you would have the S-Line package.

As far as I know you couldn't get the true S-line with a FWD car, right?

JeriQo and AudiA4newbie can form "FWD Anonymous"! Their mantra will be "We are powerless over our rear wheels."

well 500 is pushing it. i honestly haven't made it that far yet. too scared ill run out. but i routinely get 450-470 with the reader saying 10 miles left and the needle basically at the bottom. that 450-470 is all highway going anywhere between 80-95 mph until i hit traffic, then i crawl the rest of the way

you are using premium gas right?

CVTs don't have gears, the 8-speed automatic (8AT) tiptronic Quattro cars are great. If it isn't Quattro, it's CVT. If it is Quattro, it's 6AT or 6MT (2009-2010) or it's 8AT or 6MT (2011-2016). CVTs tend to fail prematurely and have issues, especially once extra power is added.

Always 93, I failed to mention that my drive to work is 3.5 miles and the other 97% of my driving is just "around town". Not very much highway for me. I've found that this car does better than estimated with highway driving but worse than estimated with city driving. I assume the FWD numbers are slightly higher.
