Questions Regarding the use of the TTV B7 RS4 --> 2.7T Flywheel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
When I'm doing my build, I'm highly considering going with a TTV Steel flywheel and B7 RS4 clutch setup. However, through some research, there seems to be a debate on what flywheel bolts should be used and clearance issues.

For my setup, I'll be going with the following:
    • TTV 2.7T to B7 Steel Lightweight Flywheel
    • B7 RS4 LUK Repset
    • Clutchnet Disk (Either full faced Feramic, Kevlar, or 6-puck**)

Should OEM bolts suffice in this situation? Any clearance issues with the crank due to bolt length, or the clutch disk itself?

**All are around the same price. Looking for the best disk that will offer smooth engagement but still be able to hold a launch. Opinions? Obviously a 6-puck disk would be able to hold more power, but at the expense of driveability. The car will be making E85 K24/RS6 with rods power but this setup should be sufficient without breaking the bank.

I do know a lot of people would recommend the AMD or JHM clutch combo, but from what I can see, both setups are B7 RS4 Pressure Plates (with AMD's being modified for B5 flywheel use) and an upgraded disk.

    Thanks in advance
    Justin

It's always best to check clearance when you install.

Just cut the OEM bolts down if need be.

what wrong with the ringer racing stage 4 clutch?
FWIW I have a 6 puck in my car.. Yes you have to slightly change your driving habits for longevity reasons(25k on my FX400 6 Puck) but has held up to a lot of abuse on and off the track.. Over 50+ launches and more NLS than I can remember..

That being said RR stg 4 clutch will probably be my next clutch..

I think you will regret going with a factory B7 rs4 clutch kit, I would do a Southbend Stage 3/4 or an AMD Stage 3+ if your motor is getting rods.

FYI I have a RS4 based ceramic kit for sale in the FS thread. Great option to save some money.

You will use OEM hardware. For everything regarding this flywheel and clutch kit. I asked the same question a couple weeks ago

It can be done, but ceramic is not meant or designed to "last long" it's designed to hold torque. That was the reason for the development behind hybrid materials i.e. Feramic.
The only way to get Ceramic to last is for quick engagement or limiting slip. Most people wear it quickly trying to slip the disc to allow it to feel more street able.

From what I've read, isn't the AMD kit just a modified B7 RS4 PP with upgraded disc?

I'd be upgrading the disc either way.

    +1

From what I have gathered, the AMD kit is a b7 rs4 pressure plate (painted), with a 6 puck disk.

AMD kit is B7 RS4 pressure plate with two modifications to it:

    1) modded plate, rivets and straps so it fits B5 FW
    2) modified diaphragm to exert more force

If your goals are modest torque, you'll probably be happy with TTV B5 FW with B7 top and stock B7 RS4 PP + some more aggressive disc. However, K24 + E85 is not "modest". That can easily put out 600WTQ / 750 crank TQ which will overwhelm everything but top notch TQ holding offering from AMD or dual/triple clutches.

My set up is tial 770 with logs showing slightly north of 600WTQ in coldest winter to wheels, it is happy with AMD stage 3 set up which is "fibertuff" full disc, which means eight large pucks of friction material on a full face plate. They have two more aggressive set ups. Stage 3+ which is the same but the pucks are feramic (or ceramic, I forget) and then lighter 6 puck disc that has the most holding capacity.

I love my set up, it is by far the best clutch I ever had and I went through quite a few setups, including twin disc which was a horrible to drive thing.

I ended up picking up a Southbend Stage IV extreme since I got a really good deal on one. Should be plenty for my needs.

However, I feel some good information has been said in this thread, so I hope it's a good resource for people who do plan to do a B7 RS4 setup. Considering it's only about $130-140 for a LUK repset from RockAuto, it can be a pretty good bang for your buck clutch setup.

I'm very glad Bordom told me about the Repset. I was about to spend $400 or so only for a B5 OEM clutch kit. Now I have more to spend for my TTV flywheel with the b7 repset :D

A factory B7 RS4 pressure plate does NOT bolt up to a factory style B5 flywheel!!!!

The AMD modified B7 RS4 pressure plate will bolt up to a B5 Flywheel.

Nobody said it does. TTV makes a b7 style flywheel for us.

Correct so ideally you would want a TTV single mass steel flywheel and a factory RS4 clutch kit with disc of choice.
