    Oil light help

I just hit 169,000 on my A4 1.8T with little to no trouble. I had my oil changed and drove approx. 60 miles when the RED oil light came on and off intermittently at random. Of course when I took it back to the shop that changed the oil it wasn't on and they basically laughed at me. When I was driving away and the light came on, I pressed the "check" button and it told me to "stop the engine and check the oil level". I ran the codes and it got this error: "sensor for oil level/temperature- open or short to plus".

Can I continue driving it? I think it's just a faulty sensor and everything is actually running fine...no strange noises, clicking or knocking. I just don't want to join the "sludge" statistic, or cook the engine. I kind of want to see how many miles I can get out of this thing.

    Thanks!

The oil sensor needs to be replaced,
I have the same issue but the sensor doesn't work, and my engine consumes a lot of oil, so i have to check it manually .
You can continue driving it, but always check your oil level.

There is a big difference between the RED oil warning light and the YELLOW oil warning light. RED is for low oil pressure. YELLOW is for low oil level. They are triggered by two totally different and separate sensors. You can drive with the YELLOW light on as long as you make sure you have adequate oil in the engine. You should not drive at all with the RED light on.

The RED light is indicating inadequate oil pressure and continuing to drive with low oil pressure could be disastrous to your engine. Here is an outstanding resource to help you determine what is causing your RED oil warning light to come on. Clicky click®

Garage came back and said it was sludge and that I was lucky to catch it when I did. Expensive and disappointing.
