i'm not very mechanically inclined, but can do the small things. I installed the RS4 grille over the weekend.
i can follow instructions, everything ive read says to disconnect the battery when installing an intake.
is this really necessary? about how long will this take me to install? anything i need to watch out for an not do?

yeah honestly removing the bumper and installing a rs4 grill was the most frustrating, painstaking, knuckle bumping little do it yourself I've done on this car..

The OEM small rubber hose (vacuum hose?) that attaches to the OEM intake was a mega PITA to get off. My car was completely cold when I first installed my CTS intake, and some have mentioned the hose is much easier to get off when the car is still warm.

You should be able to swap out the intake in less than 15 minutes once you know what to do, but plan on 40+ minutes the first time if you are the type to double check every step.

Definitely no fuel line exposed there. Guessing you're referring to the vacuum line? It's a PITA to remove if you don't (carefully) use a heat gun or hairdryer to warm it up first.

Fairly simple install. Only real issue I had was getting the filter on. Had to put some oil on it and cuss at it.

Looks like you the the new twisted vortex filter, it creates a tornado inside the intake which means MORE POWER and more WHINE! Lucky!

I decided to put it in anyway and will wait until I hear back from them before ordering a replacement.

My filters went on pretty easy, my biggest issue was putting the screws in for the heat shield.

Ended up just drilling pilot holes. Other than the smashed filter(thanks ups!) I'm happy with the product.

Tip: Just make sure it's not rubbing that metal line underneath the heat shield. Some have had rubbing issues there. I also broke some tabs on my hood scoop/tunnel when putting mine on.

This replaced my stock airbox so I cannot compare it to other brands.

Shipping: Everything was pretty well insulated with lots of bubble wrap. Big filter was just in a bag that I imagine got smashed by the intake tube while UPS was man-handling it.

Install tips: (roughly in order)

Breather hose on the stock intake came off easily using my nails/a credit card to pry away from the intake. (I read some users had issues with this)
Once the stock intake is out lineup the heatshield with the intake scoop and mark where the screws will go.
Double check to make sure the marks are equidistant from the edge of the base and drill some pilot holes. (This makes the self-tapping screws go in much easier)
Assemble the USP intake outside of the car loosely tightening down the clamps.
Removing the trim piece on the back of the engine makes lining up the clamp on the throttle body easier.
When connecting the intake to the throttle body make sure to position the filter so that it is centered where the old airbox was and not rubbing on anything. (I had a good gap between the throttle body inlet and the end of the intake tube in the coupler)
Tighten everything down and give it a couple shakes to make sure it isn't going anywhere.

Fitment: Fitment is solid, just make sure you line up the heatshield correctly before drilling.

No Dyno numbers however, the whine is intoxicating. I read somewhere here that a member mentioned it helps keep his speed in check because he can hear it. That is simply not true with me, I keep the RPMs at about 3k to listen to it scream and before I know it I'm going 100.

TLDR; I'm happy with the product and hoping USP will send me a new filter.

i love the sound. i love hearing it whine when i shift gears.
i didn't have any fitment issues other than getting the filter onto the hose. i highly recommend silicon or oil to help
i wasn't too concerned with the drilling as the holes we not interfering with anything
+1 on the tightening the clamps outside of the vehicle.
i will look again in a few days to see if i need to heat wrap anything.

Yes, you drill holes into the floor beneath it. It is just sheet metal with nothing on the otherside so I wasn't too worried about it.

I imagine the good thing about this vs the CTS is that it likely mounts more securely.

Note: I still think ECS is the best designed system, it just wasn't worth the extra cost over this to me. (Yet )

My CTS shield has not moved one bit but I do agree that it was a bit off putting at first. I was unsure if it was in all the way (First time its happened, I swear) hiii ooooo......

Anyone else have the "weatherstrip" that goes on top of the shield and seals against the hood fall apart? Mine split at between the part that slides onto the shield and the "tube" that seals against the hood. Found the tube just lying loose inside the engine bay at an oil change 6 months ago.

O.P. : Looks like the gap around the intake tube is about the same as mine - I ended up adding some material to the shield to close it up significantly - not sure if it really makes much difference however.

Just a follow up,

I contacted Phil@USP here who redirected me to their support. I provided them a picture of the filter and they are sending me a replacement.

Got mine today (early delivery is a plus) and just finished installing/going for a test drive. WOW! So much better than the boring, stock sounding AWE S-flow! Reminds me of my tweaked C32 AMG with open C3P intake and almost sounds as good as a blown 'stang. Oh how I missed that whine....

Happy to report everything was well packaged with the filter safely packaged in it's own box (guessing they learned their lesson with the last few getting squished in shipping). Zero extra schwag though....chopz got the hookup! The self tappers went in like a piece of cake and didn't need to pre-drill anything. Install couldn't have been easier...10-15 minutes tops after you have your tools laid out.
