    Engine Management Light came up

Was driving back from work on my the S5 (2013 about 50k miles) when I noticed the light come up.

Google link to the light image:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=engi...vzkZaMjLt8M%3A

It doesn't flash and there were no sound warnings.

I Drive that car on a daily basis for just about everything these days.

Was going ~120-140mph for some period in that drive today. (Garden State Parkway south)

Checked the gas cap and it was sealed properly.

Car seems to drive 100% normal as of right now, checked the engine didn't see any leaks either.

Have not added any new mods in a few months and most recent service was like 4k miles ago.

Car has few mods tho. Stage2+, intake yada yada yada.

Was wondering if anyone around the Englishtown Raceway Park (Northeast NJ) where WaterFest goes down each year has the cable / software to give me a diagnosis?

I'll buy u a case of beer and a blunt if you're into that kind of shanenegans

What else could that be? faulty sensor? exhaust problem? Just curious have no experience with servicing engines.

Thanks in advance and good day everyone!

For circumstances like this is why I invested in the Carista app with the Bluetooth dongle while on the go. Cost me $39.99 for the kit from Amazon.

Not to mention I used it for cool stuff like reset mine and my friends service interval reminder. And unlock other stuff like use my fob to open & close sunroof/Windows with the key fob yada yada... Tons of options via the hidden MMI menu.

But more importantly peace of mind if the check engine pops up on the go and you can see what's going on right from your phone wirelessly. Mine already paid for itself twice over lol.

You pay a flat $19 fee to unlock the all the pro features if wanted. A lot of guys here use Carista. You can also use your own Bluetooth dongle and just buy the $20 pro app on your phone.

Same thing recently happened to me. I'm near 60K miles and I'm thinking I'm probably due for a carbon cleaning.

    Haven't scanned for codes yet.

Probably got what I had/have in my 4.2L lol. p2006/p2007 intake manifold flap suck closed. My engine light came on but went away. Comes back on every so often. Usually "if" you have both codes it's the culprit of a damaged or broken vacuum line. My car runs exactly the same zero hesitation no rough idle. Most times it seems at least.

I need to check all the vacuum lines when I pull the bumper off to this week when I do the RS5 grill. The flap actuators are in the front of the motor & controlled by vacuum lines. If they don't line up exactly it will throw a code. Sorta a common problem.

I doubt your " code" is from carbon directly unless your car is misfiring or running sluggish. I'm sure a cleaning would help. But I'm at 75k on my 2010 never had a cleaning yet always run 93. My friend has slightly over 100k on his 2008 never a cleaning & they both run the same as when we first got them. He got his at 30k-ish miles.

I plan on doing a carbon cleaning however in the next 15k. Sure it can't hurt :) I'm a fan of preventative maintenance ;)

@SLU there's a German shop near me that offers a new method of carbon cleaning. Well new at least to US offering it. I believe they hook a hose up you your intake & I think hydrogen is ran through removing deposits. Takes about 30 mins and then you take it on the highway and run it hard along the exhaust to blow some of the nastiness out. It's popular on Audi's over in the UK. It won't remove Every spec but it will surely clean it up a bit. It's about a $150 service.

I'm debating on trying it compared to the traditional $800+ old scrapping lol. He said they had a car come in with horrible Caron build up and it did wonders for the car.

I had the code, awhile back and it was not a vacuum leak, but an actuator under the intake manifold. It does go bad, and as it is located under the intake manifold, it does have some labor. They checked if I needed a carbon clean, and I din;t, so they replaced the valve and all is good. Note, early S5's have an aluminum intake manifold, and later models have a plastic intake manifold. Mine was plastic, late '09.

I haven't checked all my vac lines yet to make sure i don't have one. I DO however hear a hissing noise towards the back firewall of the motor, i actually have a 8 second vid on my phone i can upload. I am not 100% sure if it made this sound before, as these are pretty loud motors to begin with.

Worse case it may be the actuator for me too. The check engine light came on for the first time beginning of April, but went away after a few days. Recently just popped back on again. Now that its warm i am going to check all the vac lines.

What was the cost for them to replace the actuator on yours? I have the 2010 with the plastic manifold. I "spoke" to a local german shop that said awhile ago they had a guy with the same two codes. Told me in "his case" it was some vacuum lines that needed to be replaced towards the front of the car and had be be put in service mode?? Anyway they said his bill was $1,400, whichhhhhhh caught me off guard to replace some vac lines lol? Not to mention they wanted $150 for diagnostics TO START, not to mention they could need "more time" to check the problem. I just have a feeling these guys thought i was stupid without the ability to turn a wrench lol. I sorta went in playing dumb. But in my case getting older time is money so in some cases its just smarter to pay someone to do the job fast and right.

I am going to check myself first, worst case ill go grab my VAG cable from my friend in NJ which is about a hour away & pull the real codes and check vac pressure. Like i said i have only ran the codes with my carista app and the engine light will come and go. And the car runs fine with no signs of problem. Its starting to bother me though so im going to try and tackle it this week.

PS: I do hear the flaps engage or the actuators work when i unlock the car & start the car etc.

I just personally wasn't getting a good vibe from the guy. I asked him if he didn't mind listening to the hiss real fast if it was normal. Wasn't sure if he was playing sheep mode but he knew EXACTLY where to look for the manifold flaps on the front of the manifold etc. And just seemed like he didn't want to say much. I am like 50/50 if i think he will be honest of the problem etc.

What's the approximate cost for this job?
