TROUBLESHOOTING - Thoughts before I go digging tonight (A4 2.8 coolant leak)

Had an issue over the weekend and am going to start trying to figure it out tonight. Looking for any thoughts or suggestions before I get started. I bought this car last year as a daily that needed a few things and have slowly been putting the time in to repair and replace the typical failed components.

    2001 A4 2.8 Quattro 5sp
141,000 miles (Previous owner claimed timing belt and water pump were done at 120k, though I'm question whether or not the water pump was actually done)

I was out running some errands and on the way home started smelling coolant. Car had been running fine, no temp or other issues. (Only thing that was different than other recent drives was my fiancé turned the AC on for about 30 seconds) When I got home and parked, I noticed coolant pretty steadily dripping/lightly flowing from under the front. Unfortunately I was in a rush to get home then turn around a leave again (in her car) so I didn't really have time to look into it. I took a quick glance underneath and it appeared as if the the coolant was coming from somewhere in the middle/above the sway bar area. I popped the hood the next day to look for any spillage around the coolant expansion tank, but didn't see anything except the coolant level was much lower (about 1 1/2" below the MIN line). Another thing to note is that I do have a small oil leak somewhere which has been on my list of things to fix, I believe its from one of the valve covers. That being said, I know i was running a little light on oil which I thought could have caused things to run a little hotter than normal (temp gauges still looked normal). This morning I drove (.3 miles) to work and had no leaking of any kind.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

If you can't figure it out, here's the solution to my coolant leak... Zip ties, electrical tape, and a hose clamp lol

Sounds like your water pump has sprung a leak.
