Didn't look too hard for threads like this but I Daily drive a b7, picked up a b6a4 1.8t for fun. Just looking for the most power I can get out of it and it still be reliable all while keeping costs down. I can wrench so I won't have to pay much shop labor, if any. What kinds of build do you guys recommend? several options out there but what to do... Just seeing what things you guys are running on here, also what kind of awhp and tq you guys are putting down. It would be a huge help. Thanks AZ

A mild tune like APR stage 1 or 1+ is the limit for the stock bottom end parts, while retaining reliability and smooth driveability for a daily street driver. The APR K-04 upgrade software is also worth considering for a daily driver, but has a sharper edge to the setup. A BAT will require bottom end build up, and will not have the right type of performance characteristics optimized for a fun to drive daily street driver. A setup and tune with the lower half of the RPM range providing best torque and performance and good drivability is the best setup for the daily street driver.

I'm gonna do the GTRS kit, most ideal and bang for your buck seems like. Also looks like it has good potential for power. Thanks guys 👍

I'll go ahead and recommend a motoza tune also. That's what I run on my GTRS setup and its solid. 28k daily driven miles before it was no longer a DD and the only problems I had were the coolant lines. I would recommend not using the coolant lines from the GTRS kit, mine became hard a brittle and weeped coolant from the banjo fittings even with a double one time use clamp install. Also don't use the exhaust gaskets that come with it, grab yourself some OEM ones.

Can make decent power on stock internals for how long?

The AMB rods are fused powdered metal, not forged steel.

The AMB pistons are a light weight casting, designed specifically for the ULEV emissions certification, not beefy forgings used on earlier 1.8T versions. The BEX and BAM 1.8Ts (and others,) are built with forged internals strong enough for significant power increases while retaining long term reliability.

Search here on AZ and on the web for stock internals AMBs with tunes and BATs, suddenly developing unique custom engine block ventilation, aka grenaded AMBs.
