What brakes are these on my car?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I bought my s4 avant two months ago and I need to replace my brakes. I am new to these cars but I knew right away these are not the stock brakes on the car. I live in Manhattan so I have not had the time to take the wheel off and look for the serial number on the brake. If anyone knows what brakes these are that'd be great thanks! Not the best picture

Well the pistons are specifically sized for a specific rotation of the rotor. So currently it's backwards and the cross over pipe is obviously not where it's supposed to be. It might cause uneven wear but I'm not 100% sure. I'd properly orient the calipers if I were you.

Mounting on the opposite sides can cause a bit less consistent pad wear but shouldn't affect the rotors. However, I assume yours were mounted on the correct sides and someone just neglected to swap the bleeder and crossover pipe. I have no idea how they managed to successfully bleed them like that, however... Do you have a squishy pedal?

As mentioned, your calipers will either have 17Z or 18Z stamped in the casting. If those are 17" wheels on your car, then they're almost certainly 17Z.

You have a few rotor options depending on which you have. A few companies make two piece rotors for both 17Z and 18Z, but are $$$. As far as off-the-shelf one piece options, you'll want Mercedes ML55 345mm rotors if 18Z, or Volvo V70R 330mm rotors for 17Z. Both require minimal modification.

No squishy pedal feel the brake feels strong but I noticed some glazing on the rotors.

Oh okay so if I need new rotors I can't just replace them with the same exact ones on the car?? Thanks and they are 18" wheels at this post I'm confident they are 18z from a cayenne I will be taking off the wheels this weekend to see for sure though.

Almost looks like 18z with c230 rotors? Maybe the pic, but they look a lil small for the calipers.

You need to figure out what calipers they are, then look up what you need to drill or grind on for the rotors you want to run.
I think they all need the upright clearanced so should already be done. Both need holes drilled out. Merc needs center bore opened up a lil. Volvo might need the outer pins on the caliper shaved down ~1mm or 2.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Got it thanks for the help I will update this thread on Friday when I take the wheel off. I will check the rotors too see if they are still good and such. Until then I'm gunna do some research on the bleeder line and cross bar to figure out how to switch them or if the brakes calipers are switched.

I don't understand how they stop "good" with the bleeders on the bottom.... It shouldn't even be able to stop!

Guessing they just cracked the fittings on the xover to bleed it.
